When the Joneses aren’t doodling, they’re often admiring sunsets from the swings on their back deck, a holdover from their Chicago yard that has taken on new meaning. “When we lived in the city, we never got to see the sunsets because of all the buildings, but it has brought a new joy that we haven’t experienced before,” explains Amanda. “We just like to cuddle together.” Though there’s still much to be done—including establishing a new guest room in the footprint of the house’s once-sinking carport—for now the house feels like home.
