“This house looks like a good place to have a good time,” Sara Fritsch, president of lighting brand Schoolhouse, recalls saying when she walked into her family’s Portland, Oregon, home for the first time four-and-a-half years ago.
Tucked within Forest Park—a neighborhood in the northwest hills that spans more than 5,000 acres of greenery and is halfway between her husband Oliver’s office (Nike World HQ) and her own—the house had recently been renovated, but its quirky 1970s bones were still evident in the curvy swimming pool and boxy wood-clad facade. “Commute equality translates into a lot of other domestic equality (carpooling, cooking, etc.),” Fritsch points out.
