To help fit in the littlest of guests, Lund likes to have a bench on one side of the table. “It makes it so easy for them to pile on,” she explains—no pulling in or pushing out seats necessary. She gravitates toward natural materials in light hues—a cane-backed dining bench around an oak table—to maintain a comfortable but elevated feel, adding that the setup “also serves as a great place to hang out during cocktail hour.”

The dining room’s unsung hero? A sideboard that pulls double duty as storage and a serving station. The rattan-paneled doors tie into the other pieces—and conceal her textured blue-and-white dishes when not in use—playing into the West Coast style she’s known for. “It’s perfect for happy hour prep,” shares Lund. Glassware is always ready for action in a wicker tray on the open shelf, while on top, Lund corrals bottles of wine and fresh fruit garnishes on a single platter for one-stop drink-making.
When she isn’t welcoming in friends and neighbors, Lund and her family of four still like to gather in the dining room for dinner, making everyday comfort super-important. She opted for a set of classic wishbone chairs, whose ergonomic, ash wood backs are simultaneously inviting yet durable. “It’s the small things that are the most special to me, relishing the in-between moments for big and intimate gatherings alike.”
embodies easy-breezy California living. “I like to start with a bright and airy canvas,” the former Elle editor and founder of Wrel Living shares of how she approaches decorating her Sacramento space. “Then I add in an eclectic mix of family heirlooms and pieces I got traveling. It’s always evolving, though.”
After living in the house for the better part of a decade, Lund got the itch to refresh certain corners, specifically the dining room, which she recently renovated to flow seamlessly into the kitchen. Then it was time to add paint to canvas, so to speak. She turned to Walmart, where she found items that would anchor the area while simultaneously stoking her love for entertaining.
