Prior to using DreamBox, Buckhorn Creek leadership found that many students were below grade level in math. In 2018–2019 North Carolina EOY scores showed a 63% proficiency.
After using DreamBox Math with fidelity, proficiency increased to 76% in 2021-2022.
Principal, Dr. Daniel Simons credits this 12 percentage point increase to the school continually completing 5+ lessons per week.
At Buckhorn Creek Elementary, DreamBox Math is used school wide. Teachers took to DreamBox eagerly because it didn’t add to their workload. Instead, it gave them resources to meet individual student needs.
Children can work independently. So, while a teacher works in small groups or with intervention, other students can continue their progress doing meaningful work in DreamBox Math. They get direct feedback while working in DreamBox. From there, they gain the confidence to make mistakes and expand their conceptual knowledge of math and how to solve problems on their own.

Students using DreamBox Math can access lessons in both English and Spanish. The lessons were built from the ground up with specific text and audio that ensures content and instruction are culturally appropriate for Spanish-speaking students. This unique approach hinges on the concept that students benefit when classroom instruction allows bilingual students to choose the language they prefer for arithmetic computation.
English language learners achieved growth more when completing five or more DreamBox lessons per week than students who completed fewer lessons.

We’ve seen some really good growth in our students, especially when we’ve taken the time to look at the data that DreamBox provides us with. We’ve taken some of the hard copy assessments from our students and we’ve matched it up with the data that DreamBox provides, and we’ve found a really positive correlation.”
We needed the right tool, in the right place, at the right time. That’s where we were really focusing on educators being able to triangulate data. We looked at our assessments and looked for tools that would allow for adaptive progress monitoring. With DreamBox Reading Plus, we’re now seeing 1.5 years of growth in literacy. At the end of the day, we’re working skill by skill, kid by kid to create a positive impact for students.”

DreamBox Math is helping find some misconceptions students may have had from prior grades. We’re seeing growth in the unfinished learning that was really hard to see with the naked eye. We may have students who are working below grade level, and as a grade level teacher, it may be really frustrating to get students caught up, and you’re not seeing that growth, but then you pull up some of the DreamBox reports, you can really see that growth in what the students are working on. It has really helped boost our teachers’ outlook to know that their students are growing, even if it’s not on grade-level material.”

We use DreamBox Math in our classrooms as an intervention program. It's really helped with small groups, and it allows us to personalize lessons for all of our kids. And as far as seeing growth, we've seen a lot of growth since using DreamBox, specifically because it's targeting the kids exactly where they need the help. It's been really awesome to see all the growth and to use it in our interventions. We love DreamBox and we're going to keep using it. It's a great program."

DreamBox Math Results
Beyond the fun, students were demonstrating growth.
Students who used DreamBox regularly saw improved state testing (Wisconsin Forward) scores and improvement on NWEA MAP scores.
Salem School District attributes teacher buy in and student engagement with Dreambox to the fact that students love that the program is fun with its gaming style lessons that pique young learners’minds.
Educators ignited students’ interest with a friendly math challenge in May 2022. The names of students who did 10 lessons a week were put on a banner in the halls. In addition to recognition, students got prizes and certificates. If an entire class met the challenge, 10 lessons, district leaders would put a big ribbon on the wall and would go into their classroom to celebrate the accomplishment. They handed out small backpacks and math key tags.

Creating joy for students through these hands-on activities can help them learn new things or show what they have learned throughout a unit. [...] This experience helps teachers visualize what they can do with online content and how to make it fun and exciting for their students. Making that connection between students and staff, but also between the curriculum and grade levels is really important!”
Driving unique experiences for students and educators
Much more than a video, a captivating, collaborative project
Since 2016, VASD has adopted a unique and innovative approach to leveraging these resources. The district brings high school students and younger grades together to collaborate and experience the Virtual Field Trip together in engaging ways that they themselves have a hand in designing.
Recently, students from high school athletic and academic programs helped elementary students design hands-on learning activities using the NFL Play 60 Virtual Field Trip.
The programs have been so successful, leaders plan to host 10-20 Virtual Field Trips each year.
Discovery’s Virtual Field Trips empower students to make real-world connections while embarking on an exciting virtual journey. Students can meet Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Katie Ledecky, learn first-hand about STEM careers, or visit the arctic tundra.
These resources allow students to explore new areas of interest and make meaningful connections.

Centralizing content
and saving time
Consistent technology paired with Discovery Education solutions also helped the district centralize content for all subject areas and save teachers' time. They were able to easily leverage ready-to-use, standards-aligned lessons and instructional strategies from Discovery Education Science Techbook in just minutes.
The partnership between Onslow County Schools, Discovery Education, and Microsoft is an integral to creating an equitable student learning experience. Teachers know they can count on these digital tools to help aid them in the planning and teaching process.
Closely located near the East Coast’s largest Marine Corp base, Onslow County Schools must accommodate high student mobility rates and work to provide a consistent learning experience for families with military commitments. To offer the most equitable learning, the district implemented a 1:1 device initiative in 2014, so students and teachers could regularly access a Microsoft LMS.
The simple connection between Microsoft tools and Discovery Education solutions helped streamline DE onboarding and ensured a consistent learning experience for all students in the district.

From small group instruction to activity centers to independent study, it’s really appealing for a teacher because It's not the same “watch a video, do some questions” approach—it takes the monotony away and lends itself much more to engagement with students. And when students are willing to learn at a deeper level, Discovery Education really shines.”
Enhancing academic
rigor for students
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the district struggled to engage students, mitigate learning loss, and streamline STEM implementation across 100+ schools. Teachers could rely on Discovery Education Experience to supplement instruction no matter how they taught STEM, while ensuring student engagement at multiple levels.
The solution gives teachers control over how to use resources to fit their classroom teaching and learning needs. They can execute individual assignments easily and deliver the lessons in multiple ways to fit the needs of their classrooms and students.
Helping teachers deliver engaging instruction the way they like
Discovery Education was made available to Washoe due to a statewide implementation from the Nevada State DOE—with funding support from Nevada Gold Mines.

We were looking for a partner who could help us bring digital media to all students and teachers in Louisiana because we felt it was an important step in the future of education. We decided that Discovery Education was the best match for us and for our teachers."
Effectively bringing engaging content to all Louisiana students
During the 2020 pandemic, Discovery Education was the tool many teachers across the state relied on to continue the learning process with limited interruption.
They found there was much more to the program than high-quality videos and truly leveraged its capability to help them design and deliver engaging lessons that could reach students no matter where they are.
A critical solution during challenging times
Teachers appreciate how Discovery Education has evolved over the last two decades and describe it as “user-friendly, having timely information, and making teaching much easier.”
It’s also great for students. Today’s students need to think critically and demonstrate mastery, not simply read a textbook and memorize facts. Discovery Education enables learners to prepare for the future with engaging, high-interest content.
The right solution for
teachers and students
In 2003, Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) saw an incredible opportunity to bring digital media into the classroom.
At the time, this type of learning was still a new concept to many educators, but LPB recognized the benefit right away. To accomplish this, they turned to Discovery Education for the answer.
Discovery Education currently reaches 500,000+ teachers and students across the state.

Meeting educators’ needs
Easy implementation & integration
Adopting a new tool takes time, but educators at CCSD were thrilled to learn they could use Discovery Education resources in tandem with their districts’ Microsoft tools. This meant all students and educators could access high-quality digital curriculum quickly and easily.
With turnkey integration in place, the district was able to use training time to focus solely on helping teachers maximize their use of DE’s educational resources in the classroom rather than the technical implementation.
When Cherokee County School District decided to pursue the Cognia STEM Certification, their goal was to help students develop cross-curricular skills that would apply to their future careers.
With career profiles and engaging activities to encourage STEM thinking, Discovery Education Experience‘s high-quality content stood out to CCSD leaders as the best choice.

It was very important for us to offer resources to our teachers to cover these topics because many non-Indigenous teachers didn’t know how to find the right resources and were worried about making sure they were culturally appropriate. Linda Burrows,
Deputy Associate Superintendent of Academic Standards
Arizona State DepArtment of Education
Making the Right Resources Accessible
Discovery Education, the AZ Office of Indian Education, and the AZ Office of Academic Standards partnered to provide teachers free professional learning sessions throughout year that targeted relevant topics to Arizona educators—notably how to incorporate and elevate indigenous voices in the classroom.
Since the launch of the channel in 2022, students have truly engaged with the material to get a better sense of the world in which they live. It has also helped educators to create a community where students from diverse backgrounds can learn about, and from, each other in a collaborative manner.
Helping students and teachers engage with authentic content
Discovery Education worked closely with the Arizona DOE, Arizona educators, and the Office of Indian Education to create the Native Stories of the Southwest Channel—a curation of Southwest Indigenous stories that are authentic, culturally relevant, and allows students to see themselves in their learning.
The teams carefully searched for resources, reviewed them, and determined the best grade level for them. They aimed to ensure the materials were authentic, accurate, and most importantly, vetted by the Indigenous communities and wisdom keepers. These resources are also standards-aligned so AZ teachers can meet standards across multiple grades.
Elevating Student Voices
Background:
In 2021, the Arizona Department of Education set out to provide engaging, diverse resources to help students achieve cross-curricular skills. They also hoped to elevate content that focused on Native American culture and heritage to empower students to see themselves and their world in the materials.
The state used ESSER funds to adopt Discovery Education because the organization had a longstanding record of delivering high-quality content with turnkey integration.
