Finial
Ornamental flourish at the top of the handle. Less ornamental versions are often simply referred to as “toppers.”
“When I think of finials, I typically think of something metal on top,” says Garzzona. “Anything else, like a circle with beer style decals, I refer to as just ‘toppers.’”
Body
The body or “core” is the most visible portion and the part of the handle that the bartender will grab to pour a glass—so it must be both visually appealing and ergonomic. Materials range from wood to metal to cast resins.
Ferrule
Small metal piece that connects to body of the handle to the tap itself. “Ferrules can feel like a period at the end of a sentence,” says Garzzona. “It’s a good grounding point or the starting point for the rest of the handle to take off.”
