If you want
How to stand out in a crowded field
to win contracts for big construction projects, your pitch has to rise above your competitors. And since most commercial construction companies offer similar services at competitive rates, the question becomes how to inspire confidence in your company while separating yourself from the pack. One way is to make engaging proposals that exude competence and technological savvy and win the trust of the decision-makers.
Genevieve Gillespie is McCarthy’s senior graphic designer and a Ceros client since 2019. She and her team understand how an outstanding presentation—fluid interaction, digestible data, clear messaging—can help their sales colleagues close deals. McCarthy puts everything it can into each project, which used to mean hiring outside developers to create nearly every proposal, which boosted sales but was breaking their budget in the process.

has come to cherish Ceros’ analytics dashboard. The metrics showed the reps exactly which parts of the experience prospects focused on most—where they clicked, where they hovered, where they dug deeper to learn more. If the client was especially interested in the budget or the timeline of a proposal, for example, the sales rep would know to prioritize those topics in their conversation.

Who Clicked What and How Often?
McCarthy uses Ceros across the entire organization. Gillespie estimates that there are at least three individuals in each of the company’s regional offices that are proficient in the platform. Genevieve works for National Marketing, so by establishing a style guide and some templates in McCarthy’s design portal, she empowers those regional marketers to create interactive Ceros experiences for all of McCarthy’s needs.
“It is really fun to be part of something that's bringing sales to the company and that people are seeing as valuable,” Genevieve said. “Marketing can be a thankless job a lot of the time.”
And since those regional marketers manage their own pitch content, Genevieve and her National colleagues are free to create sales enablement content around the company’s overall messaging. Consider this experience that Genevieve made; it’s an interactive explainer that highlights McCarthy’s digital mapping technology, and it’s a key part of McCarthy’s sales efforts. There’s a lot of information in the experience, including case studies, testimonials, and team member bios. If it were displayed in a static, text-heavy format—like a PDF, maybe—how many people would actually take the time to read it?

a lot of money hiring developers and creating these websites,” she said, “because none of us know code.” Hiring third party developers to create the next-level presentations took too time and too much money. It simply wasn’t sustainable.
So in early 2019, McCarthy tried creating its pitch materials in Ceros, which gave Genevieve and her team the power to create rich, engaging, proposals without hiring third party developers or writing a single line of code.
While Genevieve’s first project in the Ceros platform was an invitation for an upcoming event, her colleague went right to work on an experience for a big proposal that McCarthy really wanted. And how did that first proposal go?
