Tom Brady’s NFL career is now old enough to vote, play the Lotto, and join the Marines. In his 18 years as a Patriot—16 as a starter—he’s won five Super Bowls, played in 12 conference championships, and never had a losing record. He owns or challenges every other QB metric conceivable. Tack on his celebrity marriage, new age Spartan diet, and fairy-tale looks, and you can’t help but shrug. Love him or hate him, the numbers just don’t lie. But how long can it last?

Even when Brady’s back is against the wall, he grasps victory from the jaws of defeat. He earned his first Super Bowl in a come-from-behind win that’s still legend today. In total, he’s sealed 11 playoff victories in similar fashion: get the ball, march the field, and finish it. Repeat, if necessary.
Take a look at their most recent Super Bowl win. The Falcons led by 25 points, all but assured victory. That is, until Brady let loose. Take a look at the dramatic swing the statisticians produced on who would win. It’s just the latest example of how you can never write Brady off.
His reign can’t last forever. This past year finally revealed cracks in New England’s foundation—declining numbers and drama among the big names, but this season ended up smoothly enough and the Patriots are right where they always are in January. And whether their season ends this weekend or (triumphantly) in Atlanta, the sports press will surely talk themselves hoarse debating Brady’s departure. That said, for this weekend at least, he appears as poised as ever.
Going into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Brady’s achievements tower above the opposing quarterback, Philip Rivers. By QB metrics though, they’re not so far apart, even though the relative success of their respective teams is night and day.
