Ever post a photo of your Big Mac? Yeah, we haven’t either. But according to Facebook data, McDonald's has been geotagged more than 34 million times. Here's a look at the 30 chains from which people are most likely to post a Photo.
Selfies may be clear evidence that civilization is in a permanent tailspin, but they’re not going away any time soon. Millions of people routinely Instagram their meals. They humblebrag with status updates, relationship goals, and #hashtags from vacations just to make the rest of us feel awful about our less-than lives. But they also post from less envy-inducing locales, like the gym or movie theaters, or even when they sit down for a Big Mac, especially one in Tokyo.
And that kind of exposure is incredibly valuable for businesses. Measuring a restaurant’s foot traffic is one thing; knowing how many people take a selfie, or better yet, mention a business on their Facebook, is pure gold. When visitors share their location by tagging the business, it creates influence and aspiration no ad budget can buy.
Using geotagged data from Facebook’s billions of users, we can now understand where people take the most selfies. The results may surprise (or even depress) you at first, but they reveal a lot about what inspires people to post. Sometimes, they’re boasting, sometimes they’re just bored. These are the chains that are red hot centers for selfies.

Is it the irresistible allure of a photo with Mickey, Goofy, or Princess Jasmine, or is it the wait time for Space Mountain? Either way, Disneyland rakes in the Facebook geotags.

Getting drunk and crushing your friends at Time Crisis and scoring a pink stuffed elephant is the stuff of Facebook dreams.
The American fast food OG ranks fourth as a source of selfies, right behind their Japanese counterpart. Two whole beef patties on a black squid ink bun is apparently too cool not to share.
There’s nothing worse than someone checking a smartphone during a movie, but during that interminable period before a film starts, everyone is logging some screen time. No wonder data shows that Regal Movies and Cinemark rank high in geo-tagging.

If you’re going to humblebrag, you may as well let the world know you’re gettin’ after it while the rest of us wallow, motionless, in front of our phones. That’s right, gyms are some of the most-selfied locations, because
what better place to stage your own personal gun show?

If Starbucks rules when it comes to places people recharge, McDonald's rules when it comes to places people refuel. That’s because in the past year, 34,182,237 selfies were posted at the company that invented fast food.

Sure, the next most-selfied place in the world could just be called “coffee shops”, but that would be wrong, because when you combine Starbucks’ global ubiquity with its always-on WiFi, you get a business where people check-in, update statuses, and post photos of your unicorn frappuccino.

If selfies are the ultimate social-media humblebrag, then vacations are the ultimate humblebrag opportunity. Checking into a hotel? Let everyone know that you’re on vacation and they’re not. That’s likely why 24,759,046 photos have been tagged at Hilton Hotels alone.

HILTON
The only pure retail establishment to grace the top-30 is also the world’s largest store. Since 2012, there have been 20,961,093 “we’re heres” at Walmart. While shopping for paper towels and diapers isn’t quite as enviable as a hotel poolside, people are letting it be known that they’re at Walmart, saving money, living better.

WALMART
There may only be 342 In-N-Out Burger locations, but you’d better bet people are showing the world that they’re munching on what some consider America’s best burger. All in, “we’re here” counts at In-N-Out total 8,374,951. That’s 24,488 selfies per In-N-Out location. Not on the list: Shake Shack or Five Guys.

Not in the mood for Italian? No worries, America’s late night appetizer king is right behind Olive Garden with 27,891,487 “we’re heres." It makes sense, too: Applebee's food is plentiful, it’s cheesy, and it makes for some great, if regrettable, selfies.
And if posting pics of yourself leaning over a basket of tenders isn't your jam, head across the mall to Chili’s, the 11th-most-selfied location, with a massive 24,511,158 photos taken at its 1,606 restaurants. People love those baby backs.

If you’re going to humblebrag, you may as well let the world know that you’re being healthy while the rest of us wallow, motionless, in front of desks and phones. That’s because gyms are some of the most-selfied locations. It makes sense, too. If selfies exist to show off how great we are, there’s nothing better than a glowing post-workout shot from a spin class or this week’s Crossfit box. Among the most-selfied gyms, 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness top the list. That makes sense, too: those gyms have more than 1,100 locations between the two of them.

Nothing says “I’m having fun!” more than the very businesses designed to assure that you’re having fun. Maybe it’s the irresistible allure of a selfie with Mickey, maybe it’s the wait time for Space Mountain.

DISNEYLAND
In 2012, Facebook launched its "we're here" count for businesses with Facebook pages. It measures how many check-ins and mobile device location shares that brand has accrued over time via status updates, selfies, comments, etc. So any time a Facebook user is geotagged to a particular business by posting a status update or selfie (and as long as that business has a Facebook page), it counts as a “we're here”. Occasionally, you’ll see “2,354,052 People Were Here” on a Facebook page. That’s this number, and it’s increasingly becoming a critical way for businesses to measure real-world foot traffic.
