Since it launched in 2005, TMZ has commanded a militia of paparazzi hunting for the perfect celebrity spectacle. Everyone with a sufficient Instagram following will find themselves in the hunters’ crosshairs at least once, but as the television/website hybrid has found, the paragon of specimens is an admixture of sex and decay and things foregone, played at maximum volume. Most who receive coverage are one or the other; only an elite few manage to be all at once.
To identify TMZ’s most prized specimens, we tallied the celebs most mentioned on the website since its launch, counting each person once for each article they appeared in, and graphed the peaks and valleys of their infamy. Caution: road accidents ahead.
