Hello! My name is Ashleigh Kimble, and I am a recent graduate of Elon University’s Interactive Media Master’s program. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and Communication from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I specialize in videography, web design, and graphic design. I have always loved bringing my artistic ability and sense of creativity into everything I have done. Some of my favorite tools to use are Adobe Creative Suite, Ceros, WordPress, Google Analytics, Microsoft Office, and HTML/CSS. When I’m not working, I enjoy making art with acrylic and oil paints, learning all I can about mythology, and traveling around the world to learn about different cultures and histories. I am currently a freelance graphic designer at Simply Great, and I am also available for design freelance projects, collaborations and illustration commissions.

teachers of covid-19
PROJECT DETAILS CLIENT: Elon University’s Interactive Media Program- Advanced Videography DATE: May 2020 MY ROLE: Videographer and video editor TOOLS USED: Adobe Premiere, Canon EOS 7D DLSR
Logline: COVID-19 has had a major impact on everyone, including Aimee Kimble, a preschool teacher who has had to move her class online. Purpose: It is no secret that teachers are one of the most underrated (and under paid) professions. Our society has taken these every day heroes for granted for far too long. Due to COVID-19, stay-at-home-orders have been put in place that have greatly affected almost everyone in the world. Throughout the documentary, the audience will see how one teacher has adapted to life and class at home. The purpose of this story is to show how hard teachers are working to keep their classes engaged and learning through this pandemic.

longo mai
Every year, Elon’s Interactive Media Program affords its students the opportunity to travel abroad to work with an organization for the public good. In my group, there were 8 students. We were sent to Longo Mai, Costa Rica. Longo Mai was founded in 1979 and is part of a cooperative that originated in Europe. Their initial goal was to help displaced refugees. However, now they focus on educating tourists on environmental sustainability. For our project, I was voted Design Lead, and tasked with redesigning Longo Mai’s previous website. Our client told us they wanted to attract tourists who were interested in ecotourism and investing in their community’s small businesses. With this information, I created color schemes, style guides, wireframes, mock ups, and our final website design. Additionally, I helped conduct usability tests using InDesign, implemented the design in WordPress, and translated some of the written and video content from Spanish to English. In July of 2020, our team's website placed first in the 2020 Best of the AEJMC Web/Best of Digital competition.
PREVIOUS WEBSITE This is the original website that was requested to be redesigned. It was made by a self-taught coder who was staying at Longo Mai in 2009. There was a lot of useful information about the community, but there was not a lot of organization. We also ran into a lot of 404 errors while navigating the website.
STYLE GUIDES Initially, I came up with 6 style guides to reference during the rest of the web design process. After showing the rest of my team the style guides, we decided to combine two of the options to give us our final style guide. Due to the fact Longo Mai is a self-sustaining community that cares deeply for the environment, I decided on focusing the main colors of the website to be different shades of green and blue that reflected their land. Longo Mai also produces their own coffee, therefore, I included a brick color, which I sampled from the coffee beans my team had photographed.
MOCK UPS I took the final style guide and went on to create wireframes and mock ups of what I wanted the layout of the website to be. All of the features on the mock ups were illustrated by me, including the footer, map, and logo. I had to trace the logo from the original website in order to have a higher quality PNG. After I finished the design, our UX Design Lead and I conducted usability tests and sent off our notes to our Coding Lead. For this part of the process, I worked closely with the UX Design Lead and my Project Manager.

PROJECT DETAILS CLIENT: Elon University Interactive Media - Master's Thesis Project DATE: May 2020 MY ROLE: Web Design/ Animator TOOLS USED: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Wordpress, Eko Studio, and Ceros
my sexual education
For my Master’s thesis project, I have created a website to provide a younger audience (ages 11-16) with a comprehensive sexual health resource. Within the website, the audience can learn about anatomy, sexualities, what sex is, the health risks that it can cause, various contraceptive methods, and consent. The main purpose of this website is to create a basic understanding of one’s own body, and the risks and benefits of forming sexual relationships. I initially created this website due to the increasing amount of misinformation and cases of sexual violence in media. I believe that these issues exist due to the lack of correct and relevant information that is provided to the youths in this country through traditional schooling.
THE RESEARCH Before working on this website, I wrote a literature review on the effectiveness of sexual health education in the United States. Through my research I found that, compared to other developed countries, the United States has the highest rates of STIs and teenage pregnancy.
AUDIENCE The primary audience for this educational website are adolescents and young adults who are learning about sexual health and relationships for the first time and may have many questions that are not addressed in their sex ed classes. The current curriculum for these types of classes is abstinence-only, which has proven to be ineffective in many regards. For instance, it is important to cover what information the abstinence-only or abstinence-until-marriage curriculum includes and the topics that are typically excluded. While condom use is typically covered briefly, other forms of contraceptives, such as birth control, are not.

TECHNOLOGY USED For this project I used Adobe Illustrator, Ceros, Adobe After Effects, Eko Studio, and WordPress. I created all of my graphics in Illustrator, and then exported them into After Effects to make up the interactive content of the website and educational videos. Ceros was what I worked out of most during this process. It allowed me a lot of creative freedom without being as time consuming as hand coding, which was necessary due to the fact that a majority of my time was spent researching my topics. I also used Eko Studio to create a choose-your-own-path story that is found on the My Consent page. It allows users to choose between two responses per scenario, one being a response that is coercive and manipulative while the other helps promote dialogue and understanding.
RESOURCES I initially created this website due to the increasing amount of misinformation and cases of sexual violence in media. I believe that these issues exist due to the lack of correct and relevant information that is provided to the youths in this country through traditional schooling. The sources that I used for the information on this site are: www.cdc.gov www.plannedparenthood.com https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list /ocr/docs/tix_dis.htmlww www.www2.ed.gov www.isna.org

FINAL PRODUCT The finished website in available to view on desktop. Through the site the user is able to learn about various reproductive health issues in a fun and interactive interface. Due to the nature of reproductive health, the website will be constantly updated in accordance with new information for users.

dogtor app prototype
dogtor prototype
This prototype was created for veterinarians who need a better organizational app that allows them to view and update patient files, contact owners, and organize their schedule. My target audience typically uses Google Calendar to maintain their busy schedules. However, they showed a need for quick access to patient medical records in between back-to-back visits.
SKETCHES These are my initial sketches for my prototype. I explored a few different loading pages and a potential equipment set up page. I ultimately decided against the set up page because it did not seem to address a pressing need. I experimented with a few different navigation bars that had square and circular page icons.
APP LAYOUT Here is the layout of the app in Adobe XD. For the final design, I decided against creating an equipment set up page. Instead, I chose to include a page for patient files. My target user had expressed frustration when not having enough time to update owners on the patient’s medical status. Due to this, I included an “EMAIL UPDATE” option on this page. This would allow the user to quickly send new medical information to the owners.

u.s. refugee crisis infographic
motion graphics
the refugee crisis in the united states
The purpose of this team project was to provide an audience with information about a humanitarian cause using typographical and visual hierarchy. I worked along side my classmate, Greg Stewart, who created the maps and the Top 10 States bar chart. Through this infographic, we wanted to draw attention to the decline in aid that the United States has been offering to refugees. Greg and I created many sketches and mock ups of this infographic before we decided on our final design. All of the graphics shown were created using Adobe Illustrator. In addition to the visuals, we conducted in-depth research on the refugee crisis. From our research, we had to discern which statistics and facts would best support the narrative we wished to convey to our audience.
INITIAL SKETCHES Along with the research, the hierarchy and graphic design were a main concern at the beginning of the project. These are some initial sketches I created to help us visualize how we wanted the overall layout of the infographic to flow. There are also a few sketches of the types of graphs I thought would best display the information we gathered.
MOCK UP After sketching out the general layout, I began to work on the graphics and typography in Illustrator. During this stage, we experimented with the color scheme and which graphics were the most effective in conveying our information. From this, we were able to decide on a map design, a Venn diagram, and a bar chart.
ROUGH DRAFT Throughout the rough draft process, I finalized the color scheme, country indicators, and our graphics. We experimented with our layout orientation, and decided on a portrait orientation because it allowed us to more effectively create a hierarchy of global information to information that pertained to the United States’ involvement in the refugee crisis. I illustrated country flag indicators instead of using the flag shape because it was more spatially efficient and fit well into our theme.
FINAL PRODUCT For the final product, we decided on a teal and burgundy color scheme. This intentionally played off of a typical red and blue political color scheme. We chose this color deviation to focus on the plight of the refugees and to subtly allude to the politics surrounding the issue. The dark teal arrow was also included to create a border between global statistics and the information that pertained specifically to the United States. I illustrated the airplane, buildings, and the country indicators to show from which countries the United States accepted the most refugees. It informs the reader as to why people were fleeing these countries. I illustrated a graphic of documents to accompany a statistic that shows how long it takes to receive refugee status. Additionally, Greg and I illustrated various bar charts in order to indicate the decline in the United States’ refugee ceiling and how many refugees the top 10 states were accepting as of 2019.
