Nureed Saeed, KBB’s 2023 Person of the Year, is the founder of Nu Interiors, a bi-coastal holistic design practice specializing in modern, unexpected interiors that invite a rich mix of materials, ideas and global inspiration.
Nick Vanderhovel, CMKBD, is a designer with Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio. His unwavering passion for design has propelled him onto the national stage, where he collaborates with clients to craft truly breathtaking spaces across the nation.
Mark Williams, principal of Williams Papadopoulos Design, is an accomplished architectural designer, problem solver and skilled communicator and has a reputation for delivering results on time and within budget.
Rachel Hutchens, CMKBD, is principal designer of Maven Home Interiors and NKBA’s Mountain States Chapter president. She is an award-winning designer who uses detailed 3-D drawings to help clients visualize their dream homes.

AIRMADA Drying Solutions

This space-saving, slide-in shower door was designed to replace a traditional swinging door and transform the space into a combination walk-in/steam shower with a full seal that maintains temperature and keeps in steam. The stainless-steel AirPocket Door can be used with a flush or raised threshold and features AirJet technology, which dries the pocket after a shower, as well as a soft-open-and-close unit in the frame. When the shower is over, the user presses a switch to alert the timer-controlled system to shutoff at the pre-determined time.

Eliminating the hassle of charging-cord management, this low-profile technology allows wireless charging to be seamlessly integrated into countertop material, including wood and stone. A Halo glow under the surface indicates where FreePower for Countertop is located to charge devices, and it can be dimmed completely and reactivated with a “Wave to Wake” feature. Devices can be placed anywhere within the active zone of the charging surface, which can accommodate multiple devices at one time.

Spazio Range Hood

Part of the Circle.Tech Collection, this stainless-steel range hood is suspended from the ceiling over the kitchen island and provides additional storage, as well as full-width LED lighting. Spazio uses a Carbon.Zeo filtering system to eliminate odors and fumes, catering to today’s desire for healthier interior spaces. The range hood filters air horizontally instead of vertically, and its circular design offers superior suction power and filtration performance and low noise levels.

Jalama
by California Faucets
In keeping with today’s need for personalization, this faucet is offered in a choice of five styles: smooth, knurled and hammered, pinstripe and rivulet. It is also available in more than 25 finishes and in split-finish combos. California Faucets uses the “intaglio” treatment – a 14th-century Italian printing technique featuring textured etchings and a black patina – for the pinstripe or rivulet styles. According to the judges, there are comparable faucets available, but the detailing is not as attractive and appealing as the Jalama.

Rista Vessel Sink

Kohler’s Rista Vessel Sink was created to emulate the fluidity of water and its erosion process with a 3D printing process and is hand-finished by artisans in small batches. The sink is designed to be the focal point of the bathroom, and according to Vanderhovel, it opens up a whole world of opportunities: “Eventually, people could design their own sinks and manufacturers would be able to produce them,” he added.

Collage Medicine Cabinet

“The Collage not only adds additional storage, but it also beautifully organizes your items and provides power for your grooming tools,” said Nick Vanderhovel. The main cabinet features exterior and interior LED lighting, storage bins, adjustable brightness and color temperature on the fog-free exterior mirror, a sensor that turns the light on when someone approaches, internal power and a control bar integrated within the frame. The side cabinet offers a mirrored door, a flip drawer and interior lighting.

This innovative induction technology was introduced to the industry a few years ago, but recent upgrades include a new flat-black-matte finish, a new charger and larger burners that can be separated to accommodate a larger pan. Invisacook allows the user to cook directly on the countertop and has been approved for use with Dekton Surfaces by Cosentino in 12mm and 2cm thicknesses. The cooking appliance reduces energy use, and the judges appreciate its minimalistic aesthetic.

Removing crystalline silica from this sintered stone surfacing material achieves a safer, healthier and more sustainable goal, and the judges appreciate the natural-looking veining. Offered in Abu Dhabi White with golden-gray veins and Arctic White in 20mm thicknesses, the durable and low-maintenance Neolith Silica-Free line is developed via an innovative, cleaner manufacturing process that reduces potential health hazards, upkeep time and costs.

Cocktail Collection

The judges love this decorative hardware collection for its style, easiness and adaptation to major market trends. “There's an elegance to it – taking something very simple, and just simply doing it extremely well,” said Williams. The solid-brass, hand-finished collection was inspired by the Cocktail District of Armac Martin’s hometown, Birmingham, England. It features three designs – Colmore, Barwick and Victoria – and includes C-pulls, D-pulls, knobs, T-bars, appliance pulls and robe hooks in a variety of sizes and 19 finishes.

24-Inch Dishwasher

This new dishwasher features the Kitchen Fit Sliding Door with a hinge system that allows the door cover to move upward when opened. The ADA-compliant, flexible toe kick allows the unit to be positioned at the same height as the surrounding kitchen elements. The dishwasher also features StormWash+, which removes tough stains, as well as a Built-In Water Softener and AutoRelease for optimal drying results.

Radiant

This glazed-porcelain tile collection was developed from 3D extruded designs and integrates LED lighting, which illuminates floors and walls, including shower walls. Radiant Wall is offered in three styles and one size, and Radiant Floor is available in six colors and two sizes. In the evening, the wood-look tile can help guide foot traffic, and the judges said they have not seen anything like this. “It has important applications for safety, universal design or aging-in-place where marking barriers is important,” said Mark Williams.

No cabinet pulls are required to access the interior, as the doors are push to open. “Although competitors have been on the market for years now, this has the cleanest glide mechanism along with push-to-open and push-to-close functionality,” said Vanderhovel.

The judges feel that lighting a drawer from the inside versus from the cabinet box is the future of functional storage lighting.

This powder-coated collection of outdoor cabinetry modules features distinct shapes and a variety of color options and combinations for al fresco entertaining. Magnets and gaskets on the doors protect the units from the elements, including high winds. The CUBE Collection was a collaboration with global designer Luca Nichetto of Nichetto Studio, and optional grill, trash and sink integrations are available. The judges feel CUBE is a giant leap forward in the possibilities for the aesthetics of an outdoor kitchen.

Residential Walk-In Cold Pantry

The commercial walk-in fridge is now entering the luxury residential market with this walk-in cold pantry with an internal reach-in freezer column. The judges noted the Residential Walk-In Cold Pantry’s list of technological advancements, including an air-management system with built-in linear diffusers, rapid temperature recovery after power outages, optimal food preservation, quiet operation using remote condenser units, energy efficiency and outdoor certification.

The sink features a soft, minimalist form and stone-like design. “We need to be telling our industry to broadly apply reuse technology, and this is an example of doing it successfully,” said Williams.

The almost-silent mechanism gently moves up and down and can be used by people with reduced mobility, as well as for those of differing heights. The OLI Easy Move is compatible with any wall-hung toilet and can be retrofitted to an existing floor toilet. “This is revolutionary for those who have been neglected when it comes to this area of design and functionality,” said Vanderhovel.

This collection is made from almost 100% recycled materials, and the 6-inch by 6-inch field tile is available in single-arch, double-arch and double-vertical patterns. Transcendence is also offered in a 3-inch by 12-inch tile and is handmade in Kohler, Wis. An interactive glaze was designed to pool and break over the surface during firing, which results in a delicate crackle visual effect. The wallcovering is offered in Turquoise and Lake shades.
