Teamwork makes the dream work, or so the saying goes.
For consumer goods supply chain professionals, collaborating with their partners across the full value chain is indeed the dream scenario, and there’s plenty of optimism to believe they’re getting closer. Many manufacturers are exploring new technologies and strategies to propel their initiatives to the next level, but they realize it takes more than just well-oiled platforms to get there.
CGT has been reporting on the CPG supply chain technology industry for decades, but we saw a need to put numbers to the current landscape. While this is the first year we’ve fielded this study, one need only review some of the most recent headlines to understand that supply chains remain challenged. Beyond heightened retailer expectations, there are increasing government regulations and consumer demands pushing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) mandates atop the priority list. Although it’s far too early to determine the impact of potential tariffs with the incoming Donald Trump administration, organizations are drafting their playbooks on how they’ll navigate or offset them, using lessons learned from his first term.
While the consumer goods supply chain isn’t as troubled as a few years ago, the definition of normal has been recalibrated to one that requires a much more complex, thoughtful, and integrated strategy.
