Entuitive Edmonton

As the Vice President of Multi-Family Development at ONE Properties, Thomas is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategic multi-family projects. A Chartered Planning and Development Surveyor by training, he has over 20 years experience running complex urban development projects in various markets including London (UK), Toronto and Western Canada. Thomas is also involved with managing acquisitions and leading all planning and development activities, including business plan creation and delivery as well as overseeing marketing activities, monitoring construction management projects and reporting to key stakeholders. He has a particular focus on high-rise mixed-use and hospitality projects, and the delivery of large-scale master plans. Thomas is a visiting lecturer to the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business, where he teaches a class in mixed use development.

Thomas Burr

Emily is a Project Coordinator and Sustainable Performance Lead at Entuitive and has over six years of experience working in the engineering industry. She has experience working on projects in various applications, including transportation, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and restoration in and around Toronto. Emily’s positive attitude and desire to problem solve at every stage of the project allow her to work proactively with the client and contractor to achieve the desired result and outcome for the project. In her role in the Building Restoration department, Emily has performed investigations on the condition of concrete, steel, and waterproofing. She has developed remedial plans to address issues encountered on site and to prolong the performance of the structure. Through her role as Project Coordinator, Emily works closely with the client and project team to coordinate an efficient workflow, including monitoring schedule, budget, and contract requirements. Most recently, Emily has taken on the role of leading Entuitive’s Sustainable Performance group. Through research into sustainable design best practices, and development of tools and processes to facilitate the adoption of sustainability into Entuitive projects and processes, Emily and the Sustainable Performance group are contributing to reducing the carbon footprint of the projects we deliver. Emily has coordinated firm-wide educational events and resources as well as worked with consultants to measure and reduce our own organizational impact on the environment. Emily is dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment and working towards a sustainable future. Emily received her Bachelor of Structural Engineering with Honors from Ryerson University.

Emily King

At Entuitive, Brian Shedden is a Principal in the Existing Buildings group, delivering assessment and restoration services for a broad range of project types. Leading a team of 14 professional engineers, architectural and engineering technologists in our Edmonton and Calgary offices, Brian is recognized by both our clients and the industry as a leading expert in the field of Building Science. With a career spanning over 35 years in the building construction and restoration industry, Brian provides consultation and design for occupied buildings, condominiums, hospitals and long-term care facilities, schools and universities, high-rise commercial and residential buildings, and cultural projects. His operational experience covers project delivery from start to finish: initial building condition assessments and performance failure investigations; reserve fund studies; building condition assessments; capital reserve planning; recommendations for restoration and renewal of building envelope systems; contract administration; project management; litigation support and expert witness services.

Brian Shedden, BSS®

Cory is co-founder and co-CEO of AltaML, a developer of machine learning applications. Previously, Cory was co-founder of Investopedia.com, a financial education site that provided content and tools to help educate individual investors. From its founding in 1999, Investopedia became one of the most popular financial sites on the web and was sold to Forbes Media in 2007. The business model for Investopedia was then replicated through Janalta Interactive Inc., a holding company for digital media properties. Cory is past-President of the Edmonton chapter for Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) and active in the Alberta entrepreneurial community as a member of the A100, the Venture Mentoring Service (VMS) program at the University of Alberta and as an associate for Creative Destruction Labs (CDL) Rockies. He also sits on the Board of Edmonton Global, the economic development corporation for the Edmonton Municipal Region, as well as a number of private-company advisory boards.

Cory Janssen

Dr. Mike Kennedy is a Founder, high-tech executive, and technology strategist with a deep start-up and academic background in Geospatial/Location based services, applied machine learning, software development and distributed networks and sensor systems. Mike thrives and excels at taking technology innovations to environmental and social problems from ‘concept to market’ and successfully managing exciting teams both small and large to achieve meaningful outcomes for the planet. Mike holds a Post-Doctoral Fellow position at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. As Managing Director of the Urban Data Lab Mike holds research grants and leads integrated research teams examining opportunities for 5G and other telecommunications technology, Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and artificial intelligence to be combined to create financial and environmental benefits for society. Mike has designed and overseen the development of Green Analytics™ , Birch Natural Assets™ and BuildSense™. Mike holds a BSc. and MSc. in Forestry from the University of New Brunswick and a Ph.D. in Business (Management Information Systems) from Washington State University. Mike lives and works in Vancouver, B.C.

Dr. Mike Kennedy

Matthew is an Associate at Entuitive with over eight years of experience in the engineering industry. His focus is on structural and fire safety engineering, with a keen interest in resilience stemming from his time in the UK where he worked in the field of security engineering conducting full-scale blast testing. He leads Entuitive’s fire engineering service and is regularly consulted throughout the company on fire safety topics. Matthew is proficient in various structural engineering analysis packages and knows from first principles how fires influence structural and life safety systems. Where required, he makes use of finite element software such as SAFIR, fire modelling software such as Fire Dynamics Simulator, and agent-based crowd simulation software such as MassMotion. He has experience analyzing new and existing structures for the impact of realistic fire events, including structural steel, mass timber, and reinforced concrete buildings. Matthew received his Bachelor of Applied Science at the University of Toronto with a minor in Engineering Business, his Masters of Applied Science in the field of Fire Safety Engineering at Carleton University, and his Master of Engineering at the University of Toronto with a focus on structural resilience. He is a member of the ASCE Fire Protection Committee, the CSCE Fire Behaviour and Safety of Structures Technical Committee, and the working group for Annex K of CSA S16 Design of Steel Structures. Matthew is a regular author and presenter on the topics of fire engineering and structural resilience.

Matthew Smith

An Entrepreneur, Investor and Technologist, after exiting the Automotive sector, Thomas has worked in Project Management, built Virtual Design and Construction departments, led strategy as the Chief Technology Officer for one of North America’s largest construction companies, and co-founded industry non-for-profits. Thomas currently manages a construction technology consulting practice, acts on the board of directors for several startups and is the President & CEO of CanBIM, which is Canada’s largest Building & Infrastructure focused technology & Innovation Organization. As a Construction industry consultant, Thomas helps Canada’s most advanced builders develop new innovations to create new profits and remain competitive.
