Linus Lai
George is a medical practitioner who has been deeply involved in technology for the last 30 years. Originally trained as an optometrist, he started tinkering with computers in 1981 when he bought his first PC, a Sinclair ZX80 before going back to medical school to complete his training at the University of Sydney.
He was Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a private hospital group as well as managing an innovative software development team that produced a number of online health applications. He joined Intel in 2005, and then Intel-GE Care Innovations as it spun off in 2011, and returned to Intel in 2014. During this time he also acted as senior adviser to HIMSS, the international peak body for health technology and as Asia Pacific chair of the Continua Alliance.
In 2013 he was appointed an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Sydney with the TeleHealth Research & Innovation Laboratory (THRIL). In 2014 he was appointed to the IT in Aged Care Hall of Fame for his work in the use of technology in aged care. He was CXIO Ambassador for HISA in 2018 and has been involved in a range of health technology companies. In 2019 he was appointed independent chair of the Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council. In 2024 he was appointed Chief Technology Advisor for the Aged & Community Care Provider Association.
George also acts as a Digital Health Advisor with the Australian Digital Health Agency as well as a member of the Advancing Aged Care through Digital Health advisory group for the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre. He is a board member of Multicultural Care, a home care provider for the CALD community.
Linus Lai is a member of the Asia/Pacific Software and Services Research Group. He has more than 20 years of IT experience in the region. Based in Sydney, Australia, he has experience in several cloud, software, and services programs in Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), which covers a wide range of technology and services markets across 13 countries. In his role, he is responsible for providing insights and analyses in enterprise adoption, integration, and management of these solutions. This includes sourcing strategies, vendor selection, and identifying emerging trends in business and technology solutions across technology buyers in the region. Linus is a founding member of IDC Asia/Pacific's Emerging Technology Advisory Council and is a recipient of numerous awards for country, regional, and quality research contributions. In his previous role as head of research in Southeast Asia, he developed and grew IDC's presence in the region.
