Red Light Foods and Drinks for MS
If CAR T-cell therapy isn’t right for you, your care team will determine that before
your T cells are collected, says Riedell. Here are a few reasons that may exclude you:
1
Ultraprocessed Foods Make sure you read (and can understand) the full ingredients list on any food label. Most packaged foods are also high in salt and sugar. Too
much sugar can make you feel sluggish, while too much salt is associated with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Limit: Candy, cookies, fast food, frozen meals, potato chips, and processed meats, such as bacon and sausage.
2
Caffeinated Drinks MS-related fatigue can make a morning cup of joe all the more tempting. But when the stimulant wears off, you might end up more tired. Caffeine also acts as a diuretic, which can lead to bladder urgency. Another pitfall with caffeinated drinks is sugar or other additives. Limit: Coffee and tea (hot or iced), energy drinks, and soda.
3
Alcohol In addition to worsening balance and mobility, drinking alcohol can cause bladder problems, confusion, dehydration, memory loss, sleep interruptions, and speech problems. It can also interfere with several MS medications.
