The trick is organization and keeping your cool. You probably lean toward having the go-getter personality. Challenges motivate you and energize you to steamroll your to-do list.
Your weakness is not recognizing, at times, when your plate gets too full. In those cases, you could run into burnout or break down, Hanna says.
“When you’re on a roll, stay on a roll,” Hanna says. But build in time for breaks! Yoga and other exercise are both great releases for when you’re feeling super-energized, but you need some time away from the task at hand. You may get stuck in problem-solving mode, where you react the same way you always do, expecting it to still work.
“You can get stuck doing things the way you’ve always done them,” Hanna says. “You have to be creative and innovative to be at the top of your game. And that requires some downtime to let your brain rest and recharge.”
Consider scheduling some time for meditation or journaling first thing in the morning or before going to bed at night. You may get too amped up later in the day to take time to reflect, but it’s important to do so, Hanna says — which is why doing it first-thing can help. Are you putting all your time and energies into the things you want to be putting all your time and energies into? Or try scheduling some time in the middle of the day for a run, yoga class, or walk to release some energy, and also give your brain some downtime. And make time for the friends and family in your life. Laugh with them, listen to them, and share with them, all of which can help remind you they’re there for you if and when your plate does start to overflow (and make you more likely to reach out for the support you need).
