EVENT IN BRIEF
Saying they don’t come with a sell-by date, Hillary Rodham Clinton urged women over 50 to take stock of their experiences and wisdom so they can put those qualities to work on behalf of others.
Clinton spoke at the Forbes 30/50 Summit in Abu Dhabi after receiving the first Forbes International Women’s Day Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor that recognizes the work of the former secretary of state in advancing the cause of women around the world.
“I don’t see why there is any sell-by date,” Clinton said. “I mean, people don’t have to listen to us. They don’t have to do anything we urge them to do. But that doesn’t stop us from still expressing ourselves, does it?”
The event, which assembled women from the Forbes 30 Under 30 and 50 Over 50 lists, also presented an award to two human rights advocates who used the moment to focus attention on the collapse of women’s rights in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Over the event’s four days, speakers addressed the most consequential topics of our time, from the Metaverse to Ukraine. A fashion show featuring the work of top designers across Africa—and the return of supermodel Paulina Porizkova to the catwalk—lit up the night. And the spirit of the event was perhaps best captured by a series of 30/50 Conversations, panels featuring women who made both Forbes lists.

“
There is a great need for women our age to stay active because sometimes we can say things that younger women are reluctant to say because they are still ... having to deal with the complexities of living and working.”
