“I love Italy…it’s where we fell in love, and it was so memorable, we just keep going back again and again.”
Ferguson says the Chase Sapphire Reserve card is not only her primary card but also her family’s. “When I married my husband, I was like, ‘You’re getting added to this card.’ Any expense, any travel, any food goes on there. And I save all the points because I always want business seats,” Ferguson says. “[My husband] is very analytical, and he wanted to know how this was different. But when I explained the $300 travel credit, the ability to book reservations and the statement credit for Global Entry, it all just made sense.”
When the couple first met and began dating, the perks and points of their Reserve card helped them travel extensively prior to becoming parents. “When we were dating, our first trip was to Italy. I love Italy; you can just get on a train and be somewhere completely different in hours,” says Ferguson. “It’s where we fell in love, and it was so memorable, we just keep going back again and again.”
“We can’t wait to show [our son]
where we got married and introduce him to one of our favorite places.”
Ferguson used her Sapphire Reserve card for almost every expense related to her and her husband’s 2019 wedding in Positano, Italy. “For the hotel, the florist, the wedding planner, if I could use my card, I would use my Reserve card,” says Ferguson. Even leading up to her wedding, Ferguson maximized her points earnings at dinners and evenings out by paying the whole tab and asking her friends to send her their share of the bill. Not only was she able to accrue points, she appreciated the peace of mind that came from using her card to book vendors with account security features like Zero Liability Protection. The Reserve card’s Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver also gave the couple added protection when they rented a car.
By using the Reserve card for all their wedding expenses, the couple was able to convert their points into a flight to Kenya for their honeymoon, as well as for a flight to Dubai in December 2021 for their babymoon, where a highlight was watching fireworks over the Burj Khalifa.
“For the hotel, the florist, the
wedding planner, if I could use my card, I would use my Sapphire Reserve card.”
As a parent, Ferguson has new expenses like baby music and gym classes. She says every purchase, including an extensive nursery renovation, goes on her Chase Sapphire Reserve card. “When I have to pay bills, and there’s not a fee, I’ll use my card,” she says.
From solo globetrotter to newlywed to new mom, Ferguson values how seamlessly her card has helped her actually benefit from all of life’s expenses. She also loves all of the card’s perks, like her DashPass membership, which gets her $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on all eligible orders from DoorDash. And she appreciates how seamless it can be to redeem loyalty points. “Going into the portal is so easy because you can see how many points you have, what they’re worth and what you can use them for.” These days, the trips she can plan with those points have even more meaning. “We can’t wait to show Asher where we got married and introduce him to one of our favorite places,” says Ferguson.
