Embed Corporate Strategy And
C-Suite Vision
Understanding how to deploy talent requires long-term strategic vision. It’s why the C-suite forms the third domain of the four-dimensional workforce. Under guidance from executive leadership, organizations are better able to plan strategic initiatives and identify the skills they will need to deliver against business objectives and goals to future-proof themselves.
They then use an AI-enabled technology platform to inventory the skills of their current workforce, predict the skills they will need and then match future skills-based roles with current employees. Some platforms will also recommend personalized reskilling programs.
Using in-house talent to fill future roles is efficient, and the potential payoff is impressive: General Assembly has implemented reskilling programs for its corporate clients that deliver two to three times the retention rate of outside hires, Jacobi says.

The work is never done. The trick is to say, ‘We’re a year and a half into our three-year plan — let’s start doing our next three-year plan.’”

Reskilling shouldn’t be a fix-it-and-forget it experiment. After all, capacity gains through AI and automation will continue to reshape work as those technologies improve. Organizations also will need to create benchmarks against time, making reskilling routine and anticipatory of objectives with milestones in the mid- to long-term.
“All of this needs to come together as a holistic process. So, think about what the next five years will look like for your workforce and what you need to do now to get there,” Jacobi says.
In evaluating future talent needs, enterprises might factor in expansion plans, if any, and the locations where additional workers might be needed. It also will be imperative to understand the impact of new operating models designed to accommodate a "blended workforce,” or one that sets out to combine AI and human talents in the most effective way possible.
As AI continues to transform how we work, business leaders will need to ask themselves how they can bring their employees along to support the never-ending transformation—not just today’s.
