The movement toward high-quality storytelling on TikTok has been enabled by the platform’s evolution of enhanced, diverse techniques and tools in recent years, such as short-form and long-form video, LIVE, TikTok Shop, CapCut and more.
But credit is due to the ingenuity of creators themselves. Storyteller of the Year nominee Katie Van Slyke (@katievanslyke) uses TikTok’s in-app video editor to quickly post humorous daily dispatches from her farm, freeing up more time for creative storytelling. “I like to film my animals and my day-to-day life, but I put my own spin on it through commentary,” she says. “I love combining education about agriculture with entertainment through the perspective of someone who loves and cares for their animals while also running a business.”
At the first-ever U.S. TikTok Awards, viewers witnessed a blend of craft, originality and cultural insight that’s yielded sustainable impact for creators like Van Slyke and their communities.
“We've seen that when creators invest in craft and storytelling, it leads to stronger monetization, increased traffic, follower growth and greater search relevance,” Hammonds says, adding that TikTok hopes to celebrate the creators’ achievements and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
Tini Younger, the cooking sensation behind @tinekeyounger and this year's Storyteller of the Year award winner, was initially surprised by the recognition because she always thought of herself as a chef first. Her creator journey began on a whim: after asking her now-husband what he wanted for dinner one night, the then-culinary student filmed herself cooking to share what she was learning, and viewers responded positively.
“I realized that cooking is storytelling — every dish carries a narrative, a feeling, a memory,” she says, noting that her nomination confirms the stories she tells through her craft resonate “far beyond the plate.”
Below, hear from all five nominees in the U.S. TikTok Awards’ Storyteller of the Year category to get an inside look at their creative process, their advice for aspiring creators and how they define high-quality content.

Equestrian Van Slyke gives a voice to her sprawling farm animals that include horses, goats and cows — translating their loving, dramatic and even grumpy personalities.
Inside Her Creative Process
“TikTok has given me my largest platform to date and the ability to reach new people, be my most creative self and share my animals and my life with the broadest audience. I use TikTok’s in-app video editor so I can film throughout the day as things are happening. I would say about 70 percent of my content is filmed, edited and posted on the same day. Creating and posting in real time keeps me grounded and ensures I am sharing what is truly going on in my life with my animals, on the farm and in my everyday world.”
Her Advice For Aspiring Creators
“I have been a full-time content creator for nine years. That is almost a decade of dedicating my life to sharing my animals and my day-to-day world. It did not blow up overnight. It took dedication, time and learning what worked for me. I want people to know that the platform I have built has taken years of commitment, and it is something they can achieve, too.”
“Quality content starts with value. Before I hit ‘post,’ I always ask myself: what am I giving my community, and is it worth their time? In a world overflowing with content, value is the filter that cuts through the noise. When you lead with something genuinely useful — whether it’s a tip, a laugh or a new way to see the world — the quality takes care of itself. That’s the kind of content people come back for.”
How He Defines
High-Quality Content
“Reading and engaging with my TikTok comments has become one of my most important creative habits. Watching my community talk to each other — swapping ideas, suggestions and stories — has been incredibly fulfilling. There’s something energizing about that back-and-forth. It keeps me inspired, grounded and excited to make more.”

Moffitt captivates viewers by transforming everyday ingredients into addictive, quick-prep recipes — proving that sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber.
“If lawn care can be made fun, anything can. The main audience for lawn care content is suburban dads ... so it just goes to show that any hobby can be made fun for people to watch, even if it isn’t something they enjoy doing themselves.”
His Advice For Aspiring Creators
“I have been digging a bunch of big rocks out of my lawn this year. I have tried to keep doing it different ways and incorporating funny things along the way so it doesn’t [become] stale. Every rock is unique, and I try to make every video unique in the same way.”

Netzel transforms mundane yard work into oddly satisfying outdoor perfection, tackling every obstacle from bare grass spots to digging out rocks of all sizes while delivering practical, lively lawn care tips.
The Storyteller of the Year nominees send a powerful message: Stay creative, don’t give up and continue to push boundaries. Moffitt highlights TikTok’s unique strength in enabling creator perseverance. "What continues to amaze me is how effortlessly it connects people — creators and users alike — with the communities they’re meant to find," he says. "TikTok has built something truly special there."
At the awards and beyond, Hammonds says the platform is focused on deepening the connection between creators, brands and audiences, recognizing that this kind of support makes creative success easier and further legitimizes the career path and industry.
“This emphasis reflects a broader shift: high-quality content creators are building sustainable businesses, audiences are seeking depth and brands are looking for authentic partnership.”
“High-quality content, to me, is content that feels enjoyable, engaging and valuable to the audience. I want every recipe I share to both teach and entertain — to give people something they can walk away with, whether that’s a new cooking technique or simply a smile. Above all, authenticity is non-negotiable. Staying true to myself is what keeps my content grounded and relatable, and I think that matters now more than ever.”
How She Defines
High-Quality Content
“I spend a lot of time browsing food photos and videos across the internet and social platforms. When something catches my eye, I’ll experiment by putting my own spin on it. This keeps me curious, inspired and continuously learning. It’s a simple ritual, but it fuels my creativity and helps me grow both as a chef and a creator.”

Craving comfort food? Cooking sensation Younger demystifies classics like mac and cheese and chicken parm with simple, drool-worthy recipes from her kitchen.
“High-quality content is simply content that the creator is truly proud of. I think if there’s excitement and the right intention behind the content, it doesn’t necessarily matter … how perfect everything is. As long as it’s meaningful or fulfilling to the person creating it, I regard that as high-quality content.”
How He Defines
High-Quality Content
“TikTok has been a major factor in my success because it has shown me my capabilities as a creative — finding different ways to entertain audiences while also feeling fulfilled in creating fun content … [What] helps me stay grounded the most in my creativity is simply being with my friends. Being able to talk, laugh and deliberate on things within the culture itself, such as movies or really cool cultural moments (or very important ones as well). It helps me feel grounded in reality and inspires me when I make content.”
