Pursuing higher education was a personal dream for Angela “Angie” Wells, but it wasn’t until she began working at Dollar General as a sales associate that she was able to make it a reality. Wells, who now serves as a district manager at the company, was able to take advantage of Dollar General’s zero-cost tuition and learning programs, such as Workforce Edge and Sophia Learning, to help advance her career and support her children’s education. Through these programs, full-time employees receive access to employer-paid degree programs, and all Dollar General employees and their immediate dependents can access online, on-demand self-paced general education courses.
For nearly 85 years, Dollar General has maintained its mission of Serving Others, and further demonstrates it by providing robust opportunities that develop each employee’s talents and enhance their individual career growth. The company is committed to building a pathway for learning for employees through its innovative training and development programs, and education advancement opportunities.
In the video above, see how these opportunities have changed the lives of employees like Wells; meet Tucker Thomas, a tax administrator who worked his way up from the mailroom at Dollar General’s headquarters; and hear from Ivan Reeves, Dollar General’s senior vice president of human resources, global supply chain, who shares how the company is advancing education throughout its communities.
