Companies are moving diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) strategies to the forefront of their goals. The reason? Research shows that cultivating an inclusive workplace centered on trust encourages employees to work harder and more productively. Organizations, such as leading materials science company Dow and global logistics leader DHL Express, recognize the importance of fostering cultures of belonging where all employees, especially frontline workers, feel engaged, cared for, and motivated to put their best foot forward.
Dow and DHL Express, both of which have very large workforces dispersed around the world, are making DEIB commitments core to their companies’ DNAs while continually listening to employees across all business functions and levels on how to improve these efforts.
“Our DEIB activities are not just an isolated initiative, but rather an integral part of how we operate,” explains DHL Express executive vice president of global human resources Fadzlun Sapandi.
“We are a science and technology company that believes that what gets measured gets done, so inclusion and diversity metrics are incorporated into our corporate scorecard just like any other metric we believe is important,” says Dow chief inclusion officer Alveda Williams.
