Baseball Is Back: MLB Opening Day Prices Soar
Trend Report
Presented by
Baseball fans already got back to the action sooner than usual: March 25 marked the earliest league-wide Opening Day in history. But the World Baseball Classic really served as the unofficial start of play, with audiences across the world captivated.
The WBC—which saw Venezuela take the crown in a dramatic final against the U.S.—drew record ratings and smashed all expectations. Now, that momentum has carried into MLB’s 2026 season, with fans rushing to snap up tickets at some of the highest-ever prices.
Front Office Sports and TickPick, a leading North American ticketing marketplace, take you through the biggest storylines at the beginning of the MLB season.
Snagging a Seat
For the third season in a row, MLB saw attendance numbers spike. In 2025, MLB drew more than 71 million spectators. Simply, people want to be in the ballpark to watch the action—and they’re willing to pay more each year.
Across the past five years, the average purchase price for MLB Opening Day has climbed more than 50%. According to TickPick, 2026 has the most expensive MLB home opener average ticket price on record across the league.

But not all Opening Day ticket prices are created equal. Unsurprisingly, two teams stand out.
First, there are the Dodgers, who set a new all-time attendance mark last season, drawing more than 4 million fans to the Los Angeles ballpark. Led by Japanese superstar and reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers commanded big prices for their home opener.
The average purchase price to see 2024 and 2025’s World Series champions was $392, which is 30% higher than the second-most expensive home opening ticket this year and a whopping 87% higher than the least expensive. The $392 price also marks a 35% jump over 2025’s Dodgers Opening Day ticket.
It’s a trend that hasn’t let up: The past five Dodgers home openers by average purchase price have all been relatively expensive.
There was only one MLB home opener game where fans could get in for less than $100, and that was the Rockies vs. the Marlins at loanDepot park in Miami. It only cost an average of $48 to snag a seat.

It wasn’t quite as pricey to get into Oracle Park for the Giants’ home opener in San Francisco, which marked the first-ever Netflix game. But fans still paid a relative premium to see their game against the star-studded Yankees. As the runner-up for costliest Opening Day ticket, the Yankees—led by reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge—drove up average prices to $240 for the first matchup of the season.
The biggest individual ticket purchase for Opening Day belongs to that Yankees-Giants matchup: One fan purchased two tickets in Section 4 Dugout for $4,625 a ticket ($9,250 total).
Similar to the Dodgers, Yankees tickets run high for average purchase prices.
