A Luxurious Island Getaway:
An Adults-Only Luxury Getaway at Castle Hot Springs, Arizona
If your mental image of Cabo involves crowded pool decks and late-night DJ sets, consider this your reset.
On the East Cape—about 45 minutes from the main Cabo corridor—Four Seasons Resort and Residences Los Cabos at Costa Palmas sits along the Sea of Cortez, rather than the Pacific-facing side of Los Cabos. The difference is immediately noticeable. Desert meets mountains meets calm, swimmable water. The volume drops. The pace slows.
We traveled as a family—my husband, our 15-year-old daughter and her friend—and stayed in an Ocean-View Three-Bedroom Residence with a private plunge pool, bunk bed room and full kitchen. The scale impressed us. The stillness surprised us.
We left feeling restored.

Who should you bring?
If you associate Cabo with volume and velocity, this property gently rewrites that narrative.
Located on the East Cape, it feels intentionally removed from the party corridor. There’s no soundtrack drifting across the sand. No jockeying for lounge chairs. Even the family pool felt tranquil and spacious. That said, it’s far from adults-only.
We saw many families with younger children throughout our stay. The complimentary Kids for All Seasons program (starting at age four) offers thoughtful programming, and daily churros and crepes from 3 to 5 p.m. quietly become a highlight. Teens appreciate the independence of a multi-bedroom residence (adults do too); younger kids have space to roam safely.
It’s rare to find a property that balances serenity with true family functionality. This one does.
What’s the food like?
Dining here isn’t an afterthought—it’s a focal point.
One of the unexpected pleasures is movement. You can take a van or water taxi across the marina to restaurants like Mozza Baja, where award-winning Los Angeles chef Nancy Silverton brings her signature precision (the Cacio e Pepe pizza and Nancy’s chopped salad are must-orders), or to the breezy beach club Delphine, where tuna crudo and salt-and-vinegar sea bass arrive just steps from the sand. The flourless chocolate cake—dotted with sea salt and dried spicy pepper flakes—strikes the perfect balance of rich and bright.
At Limón, dinner unfolds beneath lemon trees strung with warm lights. In the late afternoon, the alluring scent of mesquite wood drifts from the kitchen, subtly perfuming the air. As the evening deepens, pastel streaks of peach and blush wash across the sky. It’s hard to rush a meal like that.
Breakfast deserves its own moment. The buffet is expansive yet thoughtful—made-to-order chilaquiles and quesadillas, Mexican hot chocolate served in pottery vessels and croissants that rival Parisian standards.
At Zest, dinner feels closer to a private performance than a restaurant reservation. The intimate space hosts just one table per evening, where a nine-course tasting menu unfolds at an unhurried pace. The chef personally introduces each course, explaining the inspiration and ingredients before stepping back to let the flavors speak for themselves. With the entire restaurant reserved for a single party, the experience feels deeply personal—immersive, thoughtful and quietly memorable.
Vegetarian preferences and allergies (nuts and sesame) were handled seamlessly throughout our stay.
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
Yes. Four Seasons bedding remains undefeated—cloud-soft without losing structure. Evenings here feel especially still. Bathrooms are generously sized with deep soaking tubs and Byredo Gypsy Water amenities that linger just enough to feel indulgent.
What amenities are available?
Amenities are extensive, but delivered with restraint.
Multiple pools (including adult-only, family, lap and arroyo pools) are thoughtfully spaced and lined with lounges and shaded cabanas. The beach—wide, white sand and fully swimmable—is a significant differentiator in a region where many beaches are not safe for swimming due to strong currents.
The private marina lends the property its subtle yacht-club rhythm, with opportunities for chartered boating, snorkeling and exploring the Sea of Cortez.
The fitness center, designed by famed trainer Harley Pasternak, deserves particular praise. Spacious and exceptionally well equipped, it has the equipment and layout to support just about any workout regimen—from serious strength training and cardio sessions to mobility work and restorative stretching.
For racquet-sport enthusiasts, there are pristine tennis and pickleball courts, both well maintained and easily reservable. Golfers will appreciate access to the Robert Trent Jones II–designed 18-hole championship course, a dramatic layout that winds through desert dunes with sweeping Baja terrain and sea views.
At the spa, hydrotherapy circuits, guided meditation and restorative treatments create a genuinely immersive wellness experience. My 90-minute massage began with intentional breathwork and used a dynamic treatment table that adjusted to support natural body positioning—small details that elevated the experience.
And the Four Seasons app makes everything—from dinner reservations to a post-sun aloe delivery—feel effortless.
How was the service?
When you book a Four Seasons stay, you arrive expecting excellence. The team at Costa Palmas exceeded even that. Service felt anticipatory rather than reactive. Dietary needs were remembered. Reservations appeared seamlessly. The residence butler team handled logistics quietly and efficiently. Staff members greeted us by name without rehearsed stiffness.
There’s a confidence to hospitality here—a sense that everyone understands the assignment and delivers it with pride.
What was your favorite part?
The calm. You’re in Cabo—but without the chaos.
The marina hums softly during the day. Evenings slow. The sky turns watercolor as the sun sinks over the Sea of Cortez. Mesquite smoke drifts from the kitchens. The ocean becomes your soundtrack. One afternoon, a humpback whale breached in the distance—rising and disappearing back into the water in a single arc. It was the kind of unscripted moment that reminds you how wild this coastline still feels. We left feeling restored, impressed and quietly pampered. Not overstimulated. Not rushed. Restored.
Know before you go:
The resort is about 45 minutes from the main Cabo corridor—distance is part of the appeal. The beach is fully swimmable, which is uncommon in much of Los Cabos due to strong currents. The Kids Club is complimentary starting at age four. Once you’re on property, there’s little reason to leave. Costa Palmas sits firmly in the luxury tier of Los Cabos accommodations, and it shows in both the pricing and the experience. If you’re looking for Cabo without the volume—and with service that genuinely rises to the occasion—this may be the calmest way to experience it.

Cabo, But Make It Calm
Snowmass and Aspen offer plenty to do beyond the hotel. We were incredibly lucky to have Katie Ertl from Aspen Ski Company as our instructor for private lessons. She is a legend and an icon in Aspen Snowmass. She made learning fun and engaging, and her expertise and encouragement helped us pick it up quickly. Lessons run daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Kids Ski School is fantastic, providing a safe and exciting environment for children. The kids learned quickly and loved all the friends they met. The instructors are very good with kids, and it runs from 9 to 3 as well, aligning perfectly with adult lessons. For shopping, be sure to check out Aspen One at Four Mountain Sports, a very chic clothing line available throughout Snowmass and Aspen that’s perfect for the mountains. The hoodies and hats are top notch.
