WHAT TO PACK
PALM SPRINGS WEEKEND ESSENTIALS
The resort communities of Palm Desert and Indian Wells are well known for golfing, tennis and being the most convenient place to sleep near Indio’s Empire Polo Grounds. Hotel Paseo, in Palm Desert, has 150 rooms done in soothing blue and grey soft coverings, with splashy touches here and there: a Calacatta marble-floored art gallery, oasis suites with freestanding tubs adjacent to the spa and even a blinged-out Airstream trailer dating from 1950 available for rent as a suite. (Rates start at $306)

If you’re a spa aficionada, you’ll want to stay near the hottest, richest mineral springs this desert has to offer, which is a six-block area known as Miracle Hill in the aptly named town of Desert Hot Springs. Two Bunch Palms is a historic property situated among palm, hammock and olive groves that’s rumored to be the site of Al Capone’s HQ in the 1920s. (Rates start at $425)
Opened in 2023, this 30-room hotel is distinct from its midcentury-styled neighbors in that it has Moorish and Spanish Colonial décor livening up its super-spacious singles and suites (that range up to four-bedroom size, so great for traveling with groups). The pool is minimalist, but serves cocktails, and the platform king beds are comfortable. (Rates start at $389)
drift hotel
Architecture buffs will enjoy staying in a revitalized relic of midcentury design. This jazzy 17-room hotel was designed in 1947 by William F. Cody and is built around a distinctive saltwater swimming pool. Beach cruisers for the asking, kitchenettes in select rooms and a balcony or patio off of every pet-friendly room, this is throwback desert living with updated ease and convenience. (Rates start at $356)

WHERE TO STAY
WHERE TO EAT
Walking into this multi-brand luxury boutique is like rolling up to the home of your fancy friend who has traveled the world, collects designer clothes and has excellent taste. A sharply edited collection with pieces from labels including Celine, Rhode and Gucci make it fun to browse as well as buy—if you can get past the gorgeous Brazilian style of the entryway sitting area, itself a reason to visit.
The Webster
If you wanted to pick up one piece during your trip that speaks to the California lifestyle, you’d find it here. Vintage and contemporary Moroccan textiles have been curated by a North African berber expat who realized his dream of learning to weave, a skill denied to him as a male in his home country. We guarantee there’s something in this shop to keep you California cozy back home.
SOUKIE MODERN
The bright mirrored surfaces in the merchandising of Trina Turk, located in a prized building designed by Albert Frey, reflect the sunny optimism—as well as climate—of the desert, and here both men’s and women’s day and evening wear, as well as the all-important swim outfits, are on offer.
TRINA TURK
Consider this a one-stop shopping experience that showcases the best goods Palm Springs has to offer: vintage décor, tastefully curated gifts and midcentury home accessories including books, statues and art.
WHERE TO SHOP
Welcome to the desert! You might be getting your first taste of vacation at the Skymiles lounge at LAX, or you're already wheels down at PSP thanks to Delta, our Gallery Desert House airline. Either way, here's where you should drop your bags.

White sand, high dunes, rolling waves—when you think about Hamptons beaches, you’re probably thinking of Cooper’s. This is quintessential Hamptons and a must-visit for anyone new to the area or returning for a much-needed break Out East. Plus, with a concession stand, bathouse, chair and umbrella rentals and day-parking passes, you’ll find everything you need for the day within arm’s reach.

Calling your dog your best friend is an understatement, so of course you want to take her on every outing. But dog-friendly beaches are in short supply in the Hamptons. Luckily, there’s Gibson Lane Beach. This unofficial dog beach allows leashed pups before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m. from May 15 to September 15.

Main Beach regularly tops lists of the world’s best beaches, and for good reason: Expanses of super-fine sand and a friendly atmosphere make it a crowd-pleaser for surfing and families (just keep in mind the waves can get big). This destination’s appeal extends beyond its vibe, though, with a range of amenities including a snack stand, lifeguards and shower and bathroom facilities. Parking will cost you $50 per day.

It’s a tradition that newcomers to town stop at Hadley Fruit Orchards on the outskirts of Palm Springs in Cabazon. It’s a combination tourist attraction and outlet for dried fruits and nuts grown on a family farm since 1931, and has two claims to fame: They invented the first trail mix to sustain hikers in the nearby San Jacinto Mountains, and it’s got a lock on the best recipe for a date milkshake made with dates grown right on local palms.

COOPER'S BEACH, SOUTHAMPTON
OK, Mecox Beach might not exactly be the most relaxing beach, but if you’re a parent of young kids looking for a sandy spot to spend the day, then this one’s for you. Lifeguard? Check. Snack stand? Check. Bathrooms and showers? Double-check. You’ll find calm(er) waters on the bayside beach, ideal for those just dipping their toes into swimming. Parking will cost you $40 per day and the lot can fill up quick, so best to plan an early start.
MECOX BEACH, BRIDGEHAMPTON
Montauk is arguably the best surf town on the East Coast and it’s in no small part due to Ditch Plains. Famous for its long, peeling waves, it can get crowded, particularly on good surfing days, but this is still a great spot for those figuring out which way their boards go. Keep in mind that while Ditch is one of the few Hamptons beaches offering free parking, you’ll have to find a spot on the road, so best to get there early.
DITCH PLAINS, MONTAUK
No car? No problem. Atlantic Avenue Beach is one of the few stretches of sand you can walk to from the train (it’ll take about 20 minutes). That location means that the vibe tends to be a bit younger and slightly rowdier than the area’s other beaches. Still, it’s a fun time and a spot made for people-watching.
