“For Black and brown women, hair plays a vital role in our lives.”

We still remember having our moms, grandmas and aunties comb through every knot and sectioning our hair off with a purpose. Or how about heading to the salon for every graduation, class photo day or birthday celebration? And some of us also know the liberation that comes with taking our hair, our crowns, back into our own hands; It was only eight years ago that I embarked on my personal natural hair journey, and it changed my life for the better. That’s why this series is so important to me. My hope is that it will let you explore the different layers of your own mane. From understanding the weight it holds in our society to how one diagnosis can alter everything you thought you knew, to the best products for helping you feel like yourself, here’s to loving every curl!

Upon visiting a dermatologist, she was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, a condition that affects your skin and scalp and often presents inflammatory (and all-around unpleasant) symptoms.
