It's pool, cabana, spa and repeat at Paséa Hotel & Spa
A SoCal Oceanside
Retreat That Has It All (Dogs Included)
Life at Paséa Hotel & Spa is all about the relaxed beach vibes…with options. Located in Southern California’s Huntington Beach, guests can fully escape into their oceanside retreat, never stepping foot outside its premises, or they can emerge every once in a while to peruse shops and restaurants within walking distance. That’s to say, Paséa offers a unique menu of vacations. Surfers can surf. Shoppers can shop. Beach bums can bum. Road trippers driving the Pacific Coast Highway can rest. And even pets can join in the fun. (Yep, Paséa is exceptionally pet-friendly.)

Who should you bring?
Fido, for one. The hotel is extremely pet-friendly. Dogs are allowed in the lobby, all the on-site restaurants (special dog menus included with items like “Puppcakes” and “Spot’s Scramble”) and other public areas of the hotel besides the Ninth Island Pool. Even though you might be bummed your furry friend can’t join you poolside, they do have access to the very VIP Paw-Séa Play Park, a 1,100-square-foot outdoor play area with a lifeguard station dog house and a local artist-commissioned wall mural, accessible only to dogs registered with the hotel. And don’t forget: the famed Huntington Dog Beach is less than two miles from the property. So yeah, Fido will have things to do, people beaches to see.
As for humans, considering the property’s chameleon-like ability to be all things from a staycation spa retreat to a (luxurious) family pit stop on your jolly way along the Pacific Coast Highway, we think Paséa is one of those special places that can be whatever you what it to be. Though we do think it’s best enjoyed by folks who relish time in the sun with sand in their toes.
What’s the food like?
Make a reservation at Paséa’s onsite Tanner’s where SoCal vibes come through with open-air indoor and outdoor seating and seaside views. American food with a coastal flair is on display for brunch, lunch and dinner—standouts from our evening meal included the ricotta toast and shishito pepper burger. At night, make sure you head up to the roof’s Treehouse Lounge, where handcrafted cocktails and bites like jackfruit tacos are served up along with DJ entertainment and 360-degree views of the coastal city.
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
Three words: custom Frette linens. The super soft sheets paired with an excellent mattress was a match made in sleepy heaven.
What amenities are available?
whirlpools, in addition to a range of treatment options available). Gym buffs will enjoy the 24/7 fitness enter, as well as the many wellness activities on offer such as hiking along the bluff, cycling classes outside, meditation, beach yoga and more. Speaking of the beach, the Monarch Bay Beach Club is exclusively available to members and guests and has everything you need to surf the waves, paddle board, SUP and more. Or hey, if you’d just like to kick back on a beach chair with a glass of wine, then that’s cool too.
The amenities we probably used the most were the Ninth Island Pool, an oceanside oasis with daybeds and cabanas, whirlpool and hot tub. With an onsite bar offering drinks and a functional menu of lite bites, salads and sandwiches, you don’t have to leave to refuel. That said…we didn’t mind the beach butlers (aka pedicabs) that transported us to Huntington Beach where we could use umbrellas, chairs and towels all set up already. Additionally, there’s the fitness studio, Aarna Spa, and even bikes available to ride.
How was the service?
The service was fast, friendly and attentive—exactly what you would expect from a luxury resort. Any request for more waters, towels, etc. was met promptly and pleasantly. Extra cool detail: You can communicate with the front desk via text message (so much easier than having to call down or visit the front desk IRL, no?).
What was your favorite part?
Did we mention the in-room Frette hooded robes? Those really had us at hello. OK, beyond the linens, we also loved the surprise of the spa’s private garden. Though the treatments are pricey, access to the Balinese-inspired spa meant we could luxuriate in the tranquil outdoor space with garden, fire pits and cabanas.
Know before you go:
Fly in to John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA) if you can—there are less flights available but it’s much closer to the resort than LAX airport and significantly calmer too. The location is a totally underrated SoCal gem—right off the Pacific Coast Highway, across the street from Huntington Beach and next to Pacific City Mall. In fact, the property is surrounded by lots of restaurants and shopping options all within walking distance, so renting a car isn't even necessary (shocker for California, we know). Finally, you should note that there is a $150 pet fee.
