Our visit in July 2026 felt like a very classic L.A. summer stay: perfect weather, palm trees, rooftop lunches, shopping nearby, dinner plans that required a little extra getting-ready time and a hotel room that was genuinely nice to return to at the end of the day. The property sits in the heart of Beverly Hills, but once you are inside, the tropical gardens and tucked-away layout make it feel more private than you would expect.
The biggest thing that separates The Peninsula from other luxury hotels in Los Angeles is the feeling of familiarity. The service is not just formal or polished; it feels personal. This is the kind of hotel where repeat guests are remembered, preferences matter and the staff makes the stay feel easy without turning everything into a production. It has an old-school hospitality sensibility, but the overall experience still feels fresh and relevant.
This is not the hotel I would pick for someone looking for the newest, flashiest, loudest L.A. scene. It is better for the person who wants everything handled well, the room to feel comfortable and the hotel to function as a peaceful Beverly Hills home base.
What’s the food like?
Dining here is one of the easiest parts of the stay. The Belvedere is the main restaurant and has more of a European brasserie feel, making it a polished option for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Pro Tip: The Fennel Salad is super refreshing to start. The Sungold Pomodoro pasta is to die for. The Lobster Risotto is a new main that’s debuting soon and a must. The Chicken Schnitzel is strong as well.
The Living Room is home to the hotel’s traditional afternoon tea, which feels like one of those classic Peninsula experiences worth building into the trip at least once.
The Roof Garden was the highlight for us in July. It is exactly where you want to be on a warm Beverly Hills afternoon: outside, above the city, surrounded by greenery, eating something light and not feeling rushed to go anywhere. The restaurant has a very California feel, with fresh, relaxed food that works especially well for lunch or a poolside meal.
Room service is also worth mentioning because this is the type of hotel where breakfast in the room actually makes sense. Some hotels make room service feel like a backup plan; here, it feels like part of the experience.
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
A major highlight of the trip. The beds are some of the best I’ve experienced. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and more spacious than many city hotels. Beds are plush, linens feel crisp and the overall atmosphere is very restful. After a full day of being out in L.A., the room felt like a reset rather than just a place to sleep. Pro Tip: The Grand Deluxe Room is an amazing, unique room category that is super spacious for a non-suite room.
The bathrooms are another plus, especially for a Beverly Hills trip where getting ready is part of the itinerary. There is enough room to unpack, organize and actually settle in. The design feels elegant and traditional, but the recent refresh keeps it from feeling stale.
What amenities are available?
The rooftop pool is the standout amenity. It is not enormous, but that is part of what makes it work. It feels controlled, sunny and relaxing, with loungers, cabanas, city views and poolside dining. In July, even a couple of hours here between shopping and dinner felt like its own mini vacation.
The refreshed rooftop cabanas make the pool feel even more comfortable for a full afternoon, especially if you want shade, snacks, drinks and a more private setup. The spa is also a strong reason to stay here, with a calm, tucked-away feeling that pairs well with the busier parts of an L.A. trip. The masseuse was very good and professional.
The Hair Atelier was a nice perk. I needed a blowout before a night out and they were able to accommodate swiftly.
There is also a fitness center, hot tub, rooftop dining and plenty of attentive service throughout the property. The hotel does not feel like a sprawling resort, but it does feel like a little Beverly Hills retreat once you are inside.
The best way to experience this hotel is not to overcomplicate the itinerary. Have breakfast at the hotel, go shopping on Rodeo Drive or in Century City, come back for rooftop pool time, get ready slowly and then head out for dinner. That rhythm is where The Peninsula really makes sense.
The location is convenient for Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Century City, Melrose, museums, restaurants and meetings, so it works whether the trip is for fun, work or a mix of both. But the real benefit is how easy it is to return after being out in L.A. all day. Los Angeles can be overstimulating, and this hotel gives you a softer landing.
Afternoon tea is worth booking if you want something traditional and polished. The Roof Garden is better for a casual lunch or drink. And if you are traveling with kids or pets, the hotel still feels accommodating without losing its grown-up feel.
How was the service?
Service is the biggest differentiator. The Peninsula Beverly Hills has the kind of hospitality that feels increasingly rare: warm, detailed and genuinely helpful without being stiff. From arrival to housekeeping to dining, everything feels coordinated.
The best part is that the service does not feel performative. Requests are handled quickly, the staff is polished but personable and the whole stay feels like it has been quietly organized around your comfort. That is really where the hotel earns its reputation.
What was your favorite part?
The rooftop pool in the afternoon. It captures exactly what you want from a Beverly Hills summer stay: sunshine, a good lunch, city views, a little glamour and enough quiet to actually relax.
But more than any one amenity, the best part is how easy the hotel makes everything feel. In a city where logistics can quickly become the least relaxing part of a trip, The Peninsula removes a lot of the friction. It is comfortable, elegant and deeply service-oriented without trying too hard.
One of the best features is how flexible the arrival and departure experience can be through Peninsula Time. Being able to arrive early or linger later, when available through the brand’s program, makes a real difference on a travel day. In a city like Los Angeles, where flight times and traffic can derail the best laid plans, that kind of flexibility feels like a true luxury.
Know before you go:
Book afternoon tea, spa appointments and popular dining times in advance, especially during busy weekends or summer travel periods.
Other spots worth visiting for food: Gjusta and/or Gjelina for brunch in Venice, Republique for brunch or dinner, RVR for dinner or Layla Bagels for an incredible sourdough bagel.
A car or rideshare is helpful for getting around Los Angeles, even though the hotel is very convenient for Beverly Hills and Century City. They offer a house car to go nearby in Beverly Hills as well. July is typically warm and sunny during the day, but evenings can be cooler, so bring light layers.
Most importantly, come here for classic hospitality rather than trendiness. The Peninsula Beverly Hills is not trying to be the buzziest hotel in L.A., and that is exactly why it works. It is best for travelers who want comfort, consistency, excellent service and a polished Beverly Hills stay that feels effortless from start to finish.
