The Crown Jewel of Portugal
Four Seasons
Hotel Ritz Lisbon
Besides being one of the friendliest, most colorful and oldest European cities, Lisbon—nicknamed the City of the Seven Hills—is known for its picturesque views, gorgeous weather, Michelin-star restaurants and of course, traditional Portuguese Fado music. To get the most out of our trip, we stayed at the newly renovated Four Seasons Hotel Ritz next to Lisbon’s Parque Eduardo VII. Here’s what to expect from a stay at the luxury hotel.

What Should I Expect?
A luxe hotel with lots of dining options, artsy interiors and service you’d expect from the Four Seasons. A 25-minute walk from the city center (or about three metro stops) means it’s close enough to Lisbon’s popular sites but a little ways off from the crowds. Families who want an upscale European experience will appreciate the onsite dining options, kids’ weekend brunch, complimentary children's toiletries and concierge-arranged family activities (like an outing to the Lisbon zoo), while couples and solo vacationers can enjoy the property’s numerous bars and outdoor hangout spots. During our visit, we loved the specialness of staying at a hotel like the Four Seasons—for example, the surprise complimentary outdoor ice cream cart serving up sorbet in flavors of lemon and basil, chocolate hazelnut and the Portuguese pastry flavor of Pasteis de Nata.
What’s the food like?
For dining, there’s the Ritz Bar off the lobby, world-class sushi counter O Japonês, and Michelin-star restaurant Cura, helmed by award-winning Chef de Cuisine Pedro Pena Bastos and featuring signature dishes like figs with beetroot, lime and reindeer moss and squid with roasted seaweed butter and caviar. But our favorite was the outdoor Ritz Pool Bar. Get a glass of the Portuguese rosé, beetroot hummus and lobster rolls as you lounge poolside.
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
The dark room and super comfy Four Seasons signature mattress will help you sleep off the jetleg so you can hit the cobblestones of Praça do Comércio early. Oh, and did we mention the rooms have remote-controlled blackout shades for the
floor-to-ceiling glass windows? No need to count sheep here.
What amenities are available?
whirlpools, in addition to a range of treatment options available). Gym buffs will enjoy the 24/7 fitness enter, as well as the many wellness activities on offer such as hiking along the bluff, cycling classes outside, meditation, beach yoga and more. Speaking of the beach, the Monarch Bay Beach Club is exclusively available to members and guests and has everything you need to surf the waves, paddle board, SUP and more. Or hey, if you’d just like to kick back on a beach chair with a glass of wine, then that’s cool too.
In the newly renovated hotel, there’s a rooftop fitness center (complete with complimentary water bottles, juices and snacks for guests), pilates studio, luxury spa, heated indoor and outdoor pools and rooftop track. At the Ritz Spa, we recommend booking a service, like the Scrub Massage by Sodashi, for stretching out sore calves post all-day hill-climbing.
How was the service?
The service was fast, friendly and attentive—exactly what you would expect from a luxury resort. Any request for more waters, towels, etc. was met promptly and pleasantly. Extra cool detail: You can communicate with the front desk via text message (so much easier than having to call down or visit the front desk IRL, no?).
What was your favorite part?
The daily white tablecloth breakfast in the Varanda Restaurant (with both indoor and outdoor dining options) takes the cake (or should we say, pasteis de nata). Expect smoked salmon and egg bites, ibérico ham, cheese boards, pastries and daily rotating local and Japanese specialties. Or order lobster eggs benedict off the menu. Lisbon’s Four Seasons is a foodie’s paradise.
Know before you go:
Pack your tennis shoes…and your camera. The rooftop track and glass-enclosed gym offers some of the best views of the whole city.
