Contemporary grandeur in the heart of town
The Peninsula Paris
One of the most luxurious—and largest—hotels in the city, The Peninsula Paris lies in the 16th arrondissement and less than a 10-minute walk away from the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées. With a neoclassical facade that spans an entire block, it’s hard not to be impressed as you pull up to The Peninsula Paris, a feeling
that is only magnified in the shiny lobby where a sculpture of 800 hand-blown dancing glass leaves adorn the space. Offering modern sophistication and luxury touches, here’s our review of a recent stay at the Parisian establishment.

Who should you bring?
It’s the City of Love so it goes without saying that accommodations this luxurious are designed for couples. Think: sumptuous marble bathrooms with rain showers, balconies with glittering views (available in some rooms only) and a dreamy subterranean spa with the largest pool in Paris. When you’re not relaxing at the hotel or dining out with your one-and-only, explore the sights by bicycle with Peninsula-branded e-bikes. And while opulence rarely goes hand-in-hand with kids, The Peninsula Paris does offer quite a few family-friendly perks, including an adorable dessert-making and tasting class with the pastry chef (available for a fee for kids ages 6 to 11), discounts for adjoining rooms (all rooms are surprisingly spacious however for Parisian standards) and childrens’ menus at all the restaurants. Traveling for business? You’ll love the copier and printer in every room.
What’s the food like?
The two Michelin-starred L’Oiseau Blanc on the top floor dishes up panoramic views of the city skyline and French fine dining with inventive twists, such as stewed grouse with heather, swamp honey, coffee ravioli and licorice praline or turbot with onion floral, woody extraction, buckwheat zephyr and fresh sorrel. Head down to the ground floor for Cantonese fare at LiLi (the dim sum is a highlight) and a continental menu at Le Lobby, where legends such as Marcel Proust, James Joyce Picasso and Igor Stravinsky have mingled under the giant glass dome overlooking Avenue Kléber. (George Gershwin composed An American in Paris here, NDB.)
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
The beds are comfy and the rooms are sound-proofed, which is all we really need to catch up on zzz’s. But we also appreciated the high tech touches around the room, with an iPad to control the temperature, curtains, lights and hidden television, as well as conveniently located USB outlets.
What amenities are available?
whirlpools, in addition to a range of treatment options available). Gym buffs will enjoy the 24/7 fitness enter, as well as the many wellness activities on offer such as hiking along the bluff, cycling classes outside, meditation, beach yoga and more. Speaking of the beach, the Monarch Bay Beach Club is exclusively available to members and guests and has everything you need to surf the waves, paddle board, SUP and more. Or hey, if you’d just like to kick back on a beach chair with a glass of wine, then that’s cool too.
Now about that pool…did we mention how big it is? Measuring 65 feet by 16 feet, you’ll have plenty of room to swim laps or splash around with the kids. For a more adults-only vibe, check out the two Jacuzzis or the aforementioned spa which just so happens to be the largest luxury hotel spa in Paris (hey, when a hotel takes up an entire block space isn’t an issue). There are also two fitness rooms with cardio equipment, weights and coaches for hire waiting to train you.
How was the service?
The service was fast, friendly and attentive—exactly what you would expect from a luxury resort. Any request for more waters, towels, etc. was met promptly and pleasantly. Extra cool detail: You can communicate with the front desk via text message (so much easier than having to call down or visit the front desk IRL, no?).
What was your favorite part?
Is it weird to say the bathrooms? Because they really were spectacular. Decked out with black-and-white marble from top to bottom that curves around the room, there is also a high-tech commode (you know, the kind with a heated seat and wall mounted electronic controls), a TV behind the mirror, and something we’ve never seen before—a built-in nail polish dryer. Is it necessary? Of course not. Did it make us feel like a superstar? Mais oui.
