The Essence of Expertise
Presented by
To experience a fine luxury watch is entirely analog. Not just the incredible mechanical machine and its precision; the look and feel of the entire piece worn on the wrist must come together, from bracelet and clasp to fine dial design and an iconic profile. No brand exemplifies this like Glashütte Original, whose combination of materials and superb craftsmanship is fine-tuned with an end goal of perfection on the wrist. Mason St. Peter, a designer and architect behind stunning spaces, shares DNA with this horological approach. St. Peter is also the co-founder and creator of San Francisco’s General Store, an outpost of fine design that celebrates the beauty of simple, well-made things and is a perfect translator of Glashütte Original’s analog spirit.
Glashütte Original: A Symbol of Analog Excellence
Wisdom and deep expertise about the creation process of haute watches is nothing new for Glashütte Original. Over its 180-year history, the watchmaker has established both resilience and technological prowess, bridging the gap from an ancestral approach to watchmaking to contemporary mechanical excellence.
This understanding of art and usable design has matured like fine wine. As a world-leading watchmaker, the house continues to chase — and accomplish — beauty on the scale of the watch. From the precise hands of their watchmakers to your wrist, each watch embodies the precision that defines our love of timekeeping.
The simplicity of good architecture is in everything Mason St. Peter does. From the beautiful California-centric decor found at General Store to his residential projects in Mar Vista, Silverlake, and Montreal, the comfort of fine material is on full display.

Zia Zellige Tiles
The art of styling a timeless business casual look is found in the details: from the blousy cuff of his jacket, to the shape, fall and ribbing of his vintage baseball style sweatshirt, to the homage to classic Japanese design of his 1950s large chinos, everything in Loren’s vintage look feels considered and fresh, while honoring the elite craftsmanship of the past.
When it comes to timepieces, or apparel, luxury is often found in the smallest of details. While the overall essence of this seersucker suit is elegant, fun is injected into this ensemble through the playful use of interesting textures and their interplay with muted colors, which preserve the formal nature.

Mosaic Tile
In the case of vintage, no piece would be complete without a little patina. Loren’s vintage French tour coat seen here, is a prime example of that interplay. The jacket is at once fresh and nostalgic, and each piece of his ensemble is well worn, intentional and loved. As with a timepiece handed down through generations, each hard-earned imperfection on this jacket holds within it a timeless story.
“My favorite materials, whether solid hardwood, glass, metal, or rock, do their work without any additional artifice or veneer. The material can be itself, on its own.

In our digitized world, the textures of retro materials make us feel again. Glashütte Original’s 70s models are a modern interpretation of a timeless aesthetic. With perfect proportions, three Hexagrid dials (in “Vinyl record,” “Tweed amp,” and “Stereo panel”) create dynamic reflections and carry a remarkable sense of depth. Faceted, obelisk-shaped hour and minute hands in solid gold fill out the 39mm x 39mm case. The resulting watches beg to be worn — and touched.

Terrazzo
Dial: Vinyl Record
Terrazzo, a concrete material, showcases organic beauty and variance through fine polishing which exposes the aggregate within. The Vinyl Record dial likewise creates vibrant light reflections while adding visual depth.
Douglas Fir
Dial: Tweed Amp
“Vertical Grain Douglas Fir is quintessentially wood,” says St. Peter of the warm softwood which yields tight, parallel pinstripe grain lines when rift or quarter-sawn. Similarly warm, the Tweed Amp watch face is adorned with solid red gold hour and minute hands, along with applied indices, which create striking contrast with its stainless steel case.
Concrete Tile
Dial: Vinyl Record
These hand-poured, unglazed tiles develop a soft patina with time and use. Slight irregularities give installations an artisanal, tactile look. The Vinyl record’s black Hexagrid dial recalls the silky matte black of a record — and evokes the sensation of carefully removing your favorite album from its sleeve.

Material Matters
When St. Peter sets out to design a space that’s sophisticated and timeless, he turns to these materials time and time again.
“Flow is precision. Precision is in the way flow is created and implemented within design, whether it’s indoor or outdoor, public or private.
