We move the world with IMAGERY. CREATIVITY. COMMUNITY. HISTORY.
We believe in the power of imagery to ask the questions, press the issues and challenge attitudes—for the good of society, commerce and creativity. For over 25 years, we’ve collaborated with the world’s best photographers, videographers and top talent to capture the present, record the past and imagine the future. With unmatched access and unique perspectives, we consistently focus our lens on the world around us, offering the most exclusive editorial, archival and creative visual content globally to ensure you can creatively tell your story with greater accuracy, and ultimately drive greater action. But we also recognize that not all stories and experiences have been shared and amplified in equal measure—and we’re seeking to change that, and in turn create opportunities for everyone to better understand and find common ground with communities, artists and content that have not been widely seen or appreciated as of yet. We invite you to join us in our mission to move the world and offer our current slate of initiatives, partnerships and content collaborations as inspiration for your next endeavor.

A Partnership to Amplify Black Voices
Getty Images and the NAACP together will create actionable insights for communicators, marketers, and members of the media so they can tell more thoughtful, informed, and educated stories about the Black experience. NAACP’s Art, Culture and Entertainment Festival As part of the NAACP's Arts, Culture and Entertainment Festival, CBS News Correspondent Wesley Lowery lead a conversation on the power of visual storytelling with award-winning Black photojournalists Brandon Bell and Michael M. Santiago of Getty Images, Joshua Lott of the Washington Post and former Director of White House Photography Sharon Farmer. Along with Lowery, the four photojournalists discuss their role in contributing to the visual narrative of the Black Lives Matter movement, share personal stories of documenting the 2020 uprisings, and provide insights into the historical significance of documenting news events. Coming soon, the Black History & Culture Collection furthers Getty Images’ efforts to celebrate and support stories reflecting on Black history by making content available free-of-charge for non-commercial, educational use. Our hope is to support Black content creators to tell the stories of their own history, and to encourage authentic storytelling as a tool in the struggle for racial equality. The Black History & Culture Collection is an ambitious project, starting with an initial edit of over 20,000 wholly-owned images from Getty Images’ Hulton Archive, the world’s largest privately held commercial archive, and Editorial Collections, with content covering the visual history of Black Culture in the US and UK between the birth of photography through present day. The initial launch of this collection is just the beginning. With a team of distinguished experts consulting on curation methodology and content gaps we will actively seek new contributors and collections to add in the coming months and years. Our ongoing commitment to grant broader access to content for education and reflection on Black cultural heritage will ensure this collection continues to expand and uncover the lesser-known narratives that need to be told.

To commemorate 100 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre destroyed the once-thriving neighborhood of Greenwood, Oklahoma, Getty Images has created a video highlighting the city’s unlikely comeback nearly two decades later. The community lifted itself from what remained in 1921, and later re-emerged as the flourishing second incarnation of the vibrant community nicknamed Black Wall Street. An amateur filmmaker, Rev. Harold M. Anderson, documented everyday life, creating a living record of a community that overcame extraordiinary adversity. Rev. Anderson’s film is the only known footage of Greenwood during this time, capturing a thriving epicenter of Black life and an important, enduring legacy.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or HBCUs, have been a pillar of the Black community for over a century, nurturing intellectual thought and cultural identity. In partnership with the Getty Family and Stand Together we have launched a new Photo Archive Grants Program —to honor and preserve the important visual history of HBCUs. The Photo Archive Grants for HBCUs will allow grant recipients to digitize up to 100,000 photographs from their archival library. The winning Grant recipients will retain full copyright ownership of their material. Getty Images will represent the digital photos on our website, thereby presenting a new revenue stream for HBCU Grant recipients and providing an opportunity to share the Black narratives that need to be told.
