With this grip, the toe of the club will tend to point toward the skywhen the shaft is roughly parallel with the ground (left). If your grip looks like Nick’s ,you can correct those mistakes by taking the club back so that when it’s parallel to the ground, the shaft should be roughly parallel to your toe line.
PRACTICE AN IN-TO-OUT PATH TO LEARN HOW TO DRAW IT
DRILL
If you can wrestle two pool noodles away from the kids for a little while, they also can serve as a great training aid for players who grip it side under. One noodle should be a foot outside the targetline and two feet behind your ball position for an iron, and the other should be two feet ahead of the ball position and a foot inside the targetline. These guide posts will help control your swing path on either side of the golf ball. The goal is to keep the shaft of your iron inside the trail noodle going back, and then have it come down and around the front noodle in the through-swing as you see Alex doing here. Start by hitting balls off a tee with small, waist-high-to-waist-high swings. The ball should start right of the target and draw back to it.
