Traditional vs Agile Work Agile workers don’t want to spend time adjusting the task chair they only spend a few hours in. The ideal work environment for tomorrow’s knowledge worker provides support where it's needed and freedom where it’s wanted. Traditional task chairs contrast the increasingly residential-themed workplace aesthetic. Nia with it’s slim upholstered profile and concealed mechanisms finally creates a chair that compliments this aesthetic without compromising performance.

Sustainability in People & Community
Supporting Zero Waste
Haworth is committed to promote community engagement through educational opportunities and volunteerism in the communities where we operate. Haworth Shanghai organizes Coastal Clean Up Haworth volunteering activity in support of Rendu Ocean, a non-profit organization focusing on fighting marine pollution in China. By the end of the day, our team of 48 volunteers had collected 2,455 items. They removed a total of 233 kg of ocean waste from the shorelines.
Empowering members
From the members and supply teams who make our products to the thousands of Haworth members around the world, we believe in providing opportunity for all. We recognize that our success is intrinsically linked to the vitality of the communities where we live and work. Our goal is to contribute to community prosperity by leveraging our resources and expertise to partner with community leaders who are evolving the economic and social systems in our own backyard.
Continuous Learning remains one of our core values. In 2021, Haworth globally offered:

Life Cycle Assessment - Impact of Life Cycle Stages
Our goal is to maximize product and resources value, and minimize environmental impacts, including embodied carbon. We evaluate and steer the development of new products according to defined circular design principles. Design influences sustainability in the supply chain, in manufacturing, and the usage phase. It ultimately enables the ease of product reuse, refurbishment, or recycling. We use Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to understand our product embodied carbon and to inform our design strategies. We communicate our products' life cycle impacts, including embodied carbon via our product environmental data sheets (PEDS).
Choosing Circular Materials : Oceanic Fabric
Polyester with a Purpose. Made from the SEAQUAL Initiative’s Upcycled Marine Plastic, combined with other post-consumer plastic water bottle waste from the land, SEAQUAL YARN brings to life possibilities for use in a multitude of applications with the creation of textiles. Camira uses SEAQUAL YARN to produce Oceanic, the latest in a series of recycled textile creations from the manufacturer. For every two kilograms (four meters) of Oceanic, one kilogram of waste is removed from the ocean. One meter of fabric equates to 26 plastic bottles.

The project started with the take-back of the old furniture of the European Parliament. Living up to its values of sustainability and its commitment to a circular economy. The European Parliament and Haworth chose to donate part of the furniture to 6 schools in Kenya. External recognition for Sustainability
Recognition by EcoVadis: a platform for companies to assess the environmental and social performance of their suppliers. Haworth globally has again received the Gold medal and achieved its highest score so far, compared to past EcoVadis assessments. An achievement that was only possible again thanks to the contribution and support of numerous members across the globe! With this result, Haworth is now among the top 2% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the furniture manufacturing industry. The conclusions also show areas for improvement, which we will take into consideration moving forward.
Arriving in 1997, we were the first MNC in the industry to invest in establishing manufacturing facilities in India. As the Offshoring markets have expanded, Haworth has developed its product offerings in India to provide market appropriate soluons that maintain the Haworth quality and ergonomic and sustainability features that our customers expect from us. Today, Haworth has sales offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The plant in Pune achieved a Zero landfill status, proving Haworth’s commitment and responsibility towards the environment. Following the success of the pilot facility in Chennai, we invested in our own land and developed and opened India’s first ‘Haworth wholly-owned manufacturing facility’ in Chennai. The Pune plant was closed in 2014, moving seating production to Chennai. From Chennai, we currently manufacture Shift, Hat Elements, Intuity, Fern, Zody, Aloha Active and Aloha Easy, Riverbend and Pebble. Since 2010 we have been developing our Tier II city support through a evolving dealer network and are presently executing projects in Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Kerala. Further dealers are being added to cover addional Tier II cties.

Successful Hybrid Interactions
REST: Our secret for successful hybrid collaboration
The world of work has been impacted greatly by the pandemic. With Work from Anywhere becoming a reality, our workplace ecosystem has evolved to include the Office, the Home and Third Places. With this new flexibility, we have a new challenge ahead of us: Hybrid Collaboration.
Hybrid meetings efficiency relies on the duration of meeting and the level of collaboration required. When hosting a meeting, get prepared and ask yourself if the purpose of the meeting will be better supported on a virtual, hybrid or physical channel.
+
Work is likely to be done in more than one location. When we think about what the future of work looks like, it is at the centre of an integrated ecosystem that balances work among three primary physical locations: office, home, and third places.

More Human & Sustainable
Aesthetic, Vibe & Feel
There is also an aspect of bringing the office closer to home. The adoption of underutilised retail space and adaptations are being trialled by retail banking & insurance branches. It will bring business back into the village, into the neighborhood, and into the community. Whether downsizing or through a hub and spoke model, the commercial landscape will change, hopefully revitalising the urban fringe.
More Collaboration
As the office becomes the center of connection and culture for the organization, more group spaces will be necessary to support these connections. In the past, our connections to others were often secondary to the importance of everyone being managed and present. Now that we have learned that work happens in a variety of settings, being in the office will be more about these connections and less about being in an assigned seat for the majority of the day.
Space Shift
This timeline illustration shows the worst-case and best-case scenarios. We are going to see some variations as we move forward. Density will also depend upon the function of the office and the roles individuals and teams play. Call centres will continue to be at one end of the spectrum, but we are certainly seeing an evolution of even these spaces. As group teamwork and collaboration are key to productivity.
Agile & Mobile
The office will continue to evolve as working populations return. Corporate real estate is a long term investment and risk adverse. Hybrid working has added to this complexity. Managing regulations and variable demand companies are applying agile working principles. The introduction of new elements to enhance collaboration and acoustics have been flexible and mobile to support a variety of activities and ongoing space development.
Immersive Workplace
2020 has taught all of us the ease of connection to others via virtual tools. We will be carrying this forward into our office experience—anticipating easier, intuitive, and at times serendipitous connections to others. Virtual connection will be possible in almost every work experience.
Individual Workpoint At the individual workpoint, virtual connections will be paramount and acoustics will need to be managed.
Team Space Team spaces will be equipped with virtual displays for an “always on view” for remote team members.
Social Connection Social connections will be enhanced by virtual connection to increase inclusion and the sharing of ideas.
Informal Collaboration Space Sharing of information will happen seamlessly in spaces to help absorb and connect passively.
Touchdown Even the touchdown will need opportunities for virtual connection and sharing.

Oceanic
At Haworth, we are dedicated to building a circular economy—one in which resources are continually reused, recycled, and upcycled to reduce waste. We believe taking a circular approach to designing products and materials is one of the biggest opportunities our industry and its partners have to create a sustainable future. That’s why we’re proud to bring you Oceanic, a beautiful upcycled-plastic polyester upholstery fabric. Over the past 60 years, an estimated 12.7 million tons of plastic waste have been dumped into our oceans, negatively impacting marine ecosystems and more than 800 species of life. Through the SEAQUAL Initiative, marine debris is collected and transformed into Upcycled Marine Plastic pellets, which are extruded into SEAQUAL Yarn. The fibers are then woven by textile partner Camira to produce Oceanic.
