Sensor tagging features allow for the data to be collected and later analysed by Work Sensor type, location on the floor/ building, and allocation to a team or business unit. It also allows for data collection and analysis of other environmental elements such as proximity to power plugs, daylight access, corridors, cafeterias, etc. This feature allows for a much deeper and meaningful data interpretation at reporting time.

5 Themes for the Future
2020 has taught all of us the ease of connection to others via virtual tools. We will be carrying this forward into our office experience—anticipating easier, intuitive, and at times serendipitous connections to others. Virtual connection will be possible in almost every work experience.
5 Themes for the Future of the Office
Immersive Workplace
A workplace transformation is taking place right before our eyes. We’ve been studying what this seismic shift in the workplace means. What we’ve discovered is that in this new ecosystem where more people can work in a multitude of spaces, the office is becoming more dynamic, experiential, and valued than ever. Here are 5 themes for the future of the office:
Individual Workpoint At the individual workpoint, virtual connections will be paramount and acoustics will need to be managed.
Team Space Team spaces will be equipped with virtual displays for an “always on view” for remote team members.
Social Connection Social connections will be enhanced by virtual connection to increase inclusion and the sharing of ideas.
Touchdown Even the touchdown will need opportunities for virtual connection and sharing.
Informal Collaboration Space Sharing of information will happen seamlessly in spaces to help absorb and connect passively.
More Collaboration
Agile and Mobile
Space Shift
More human & Sustainable
As the office becomes the center of connection and culture for the organization, more group spaces will be necessary to support these connections. In the past, our connections to others were often secondary to the importance of everyone being managed and present. Now that we have learned that work happens in a variety of settings, being in the office will be more about these connections and less about being in an assigned seat for the majority of the day.
Agile & Mobile
The office will continue to evolve as working populations return. Corporate real estate is a long term investment and risk adverse. Hybrid working has added to this complexity. Managing regulations and variable demand companies are applying agile working principles. The introduction of new elements to enhance collaboration and acoustics have been flexible and mobile to support a variety of activities and ongoing space development.
More Human & Sustainable
Aesthetic, Vibe & Feel
Hybrid meetings efficiency relies on the duration of meeting and the level of collaboration required. When hosting a meeting, get prepared and ask yourself if the purpose of the meeting will be better supported on a virtual, hybrid or physical channel.
This timeline illustration shows the worst-case and best-case scenarios. We are going to see some variations as we move forward. Density will also depend upon the function of the office and the roles individuals and teams play. Call centres will continue to be at one end of the spectrum, but we are certainly seeing an evolution of even these spaces. As group teamwork and collaboration are key to productivity.
There is also an aspect of bringing the office closer to home. The adoption of underutilised retail space and adaptations are being trialled by retail banking & insurance branches. It will bring business back into the village, into the neighborhood, and into the community. Whether downsizing or through a hub and spoke model, the commercial landscape will change, hopefully revitalising the urban fringe.
Ensure cameras work/communicate in advance Set up the devices/equipment in advance Download/open relevant files beforehand

People & Community
Our sustainability strategy focuses on three areas: People & Community, Circular Economy, and Operational Performance. To focus our efforts, we have developed our Core Commitments, ambitious targets that help drive our mission forward. We strengthen existing partnerships and build new ones, while empowering our members and leveraging our global reach, as we continue our drive toward making positive changes for the people and communities we serve all over the world.
Our Strategic Focus
By 2025, Haworth is committed to design 100% of new products using circular design principles.
Healthy materials use, excluding harmful substances
High volume of recycled and recyclable materials
Individual component identification
Easy disassembly, reuse and recycling concepts
Exemplary product quality and safety
Life Cycle Assessment - Impact of Life Cycle Stages
Our goal is to maximize product and resources value, and minimize environmental impacts, including embodied carbon. We evaluate and steer the development of new products according to defined circular design principles. Design influences sustainability in the supply chain, in manufacturing, and the usage phase. It ultimately enables the ease of product reuse, refurbishment, or recycling. We use Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to understand our product embodied carbon and to inform our design strategies. We communicate our products' life cycle impacts, including embodied carbon via our product environmental data sheets (PEDS).
Choosing Circular Materials : Oceanic Fabric
Polyester with a Purpose. Made from the SEAQUAL Initiative’s Upcycled Marine Plastic, combined with other post-consumer plastic water bottle waste from the land, SEAQUAL YARN brings to life possibilities for use in a multitude of applications with the creation of textiles. Camira uses SEAQUAL YARN to produce Oceanic, the latest in a series of recycled textile creations from the manufacturer. For every two kilograms (four meters) of Oceanic, one kilogram of waste is removed from the ocean. One meter of fabric equates to 26 plastic bottles.
Supporting Circular Business Models – a Client Case Study
The project started with the take-back of the old furniture of the European Parliament. Living up to its values of sustainability and its commitment to a circular economy. The European Parliament and Haworth chose to donate part of the furniture to 6 schools in Kenya. In partnership with the Dutch charity organization Klaartje Derks, Haworth funded and used its expertise to manage the logistics for the furniture donation.
Supporting Zero Waste
Sustainability in People & Community
Haworth is committed to promote community engagement through educational opportunities and volunteerism in the communities where we operate. Haworth Shanghai organizes Coastal Clean Up Haworth volunteering activity in support of Rendu Ocean, a non-profit organization focusing on fighting marine pollution in China. By the end of the day, our team of 48 volunteers had collected 2,455 items. They removed a total of 233 kg of ocean waste from the shorelines.
Zero Waste Journey
Haworth is committed to maintain Zero Waste to Landfill for manufacturing sites and world headquarters; to maximize material efficiency and ensure the highest value use for remaining material; and to continually reduce global waste-to-energy.
External recognition for Sustainability
Recognition by EcoVadis: a platform for companies to assess the environmental and social performance of their suppliers. Haworth globally has again received the Gold medal and achieved its highest score so far, compared to past EcoVadis assessments. An achievement that was only possible again thanks to the contribution and support of numerous members across the globe! With this result, Haworth is now among the top 2% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the furniture manufacturing industry. The conclusions also show areas for improvement, which we will take into consideration moving forward.

Supporting Biodiversity
Haworth Germany hosted a family day for members to reconnect and engage in volunteering activities to support the local community and environment. Making use of our Haworth site’s materials and member skillsets, the teams built, amongst others, five large bee-houses to provide shelter for these important insects and contribute to local biodiversity.
Carbon Accountability
Carbon accountability is an important element in Haworth's overall strategy and linked to all three key areas of our strategy. We take a holistic approach that tackles climate impacts along all steps of our value cycle and supports the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact. Our work is informed by our pledge to the business ambition for 1.5°C of the Science Based Targets initiative and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG). We assess Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions according to the leading GHG protocols, and report annually with CDP. Through our strategy and commitments, Haworth supports our customers in their path toward net zero carbon

Goal: Designing a work environment incorporating leading-edge innovations. Solution: The project focused on the user’s wellbeing, taking up the challenge of creating a unique, yet acoustically strongly protected environment, with panels and partitions, including vegetation, to optimize sound absorption. Acoustic expectations were to reduce reverberation on the desks as well as on the entire workspace. We, therefore, equipped the benches with Universal Screens, installed MeetYou partitions in various key-locations, and introduced suspended screens in others. Products: Workstations are Epure benches for four or six positions, whose tops offer an extra cut to integrate the Artemide floor-mounted luminaires. We also installed Be_Hold design lockers for personal storage and completed the workstations with Fern task chairs, which - like the Epure range - contribute to achieving LEED accreditation.
