Track your medications
You may take medications to help lower blood pressure, manage blood sugar, or lower cholesterol. It’s crucial that you remember to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Using an app to track your medications can help.
Create a meal plan
You may need to reduce your salt intake, eat the right amount of protein for you, and follow a heart-healthy diet. Work with your doctor, or a dietitian if you have access to one, to create a personalized meal plan that’s right for your stage of CKD.
Get moving
Exercise can help you manage your weight, lower blood pressure, manage blood sugar, and relieve stress. Aim for 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Some good options include walking, yoga, and strength exercises.
Prioritize sleep
Getting enough sleep is important for your physical and mental health. Stick to a regular sleep schedule. Create a relaxing bedtime routine to help you ease into sleep.
Find ways to de-stress
Stress can raise blood sugar and blood pressure levels. It can also increase your risk of depression. Practice relaxation techniques, meditate, or do a hobby you enjoy to help manage stress.
Build your
support network
A strong support network can make a huge difference on those days you don’t feel so great. Talk with a friend or counselor, or join a support group. You may also consider signing up with a mentor from the National Kidney Foundation.
