Connecticut spring is upon us and locals can feel the excitement in the air. As the temperatures begin to rise and the amount of daylight starts increasing, it’s awesome to feel more motivated to go out and enjoy your community. Lucky for those in and around Norwalk, the city is home to numerous opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, have fun with friends and family, and bask in all that’s great about the new season.
One of Norwalk’s shining qualities is its access to the scenic Long Island Sound, offering ample opportunities to enjoy beaches, the water, and the sunshine. Spending the day at Calf Pasture Beach offers not only unlimited sun time, but the opportunity to rent sailboats and kayaks or fish on the pier. The beach also has a playground for little ones, places to skate, and areas to play volleyball, softball, or bocce.
Among the more popular activities is the opportunity to take a boat cruise, and the Maritime Aquarium knows how to keep things interesting. All aboard the Spirit of the Sound, the aquarium’s hybrid, 64-foot catamaran that travels in silence. Though cruises run all year-round, these experiences stand out in the spring and summer months when guests can enjoy the warm weather. Keep your eyes peeled for seals and different types of birds while on board, and if you’re lucky, you’ll witness cotton candy skies along the horizon.
The cruises welcome children ages six and up, and tickets can be purchased online in advance to reserve your spot. Guests can opt to attend cruises with specified programs such as Marine Life Study, Lighthouse and History Tour, or choose tours specific to Birding or Seal-Spotting. The Spirit of the Sound can also be reserved for private events and special occasions.
And for area families, the Maritime Aquarium continues to be a prime destination for fun with the kids, whether you’re catching a movie at the 4D theater or catching fins at the touch tank. As the schoolyear’s end approaches, be sure to check out the aquarium’s list of camps and summer programming for your little ones.

Who says you have to celebrate Easter to enjoy the fun it brings? Norwalk Easter egg hunters are gearing up to take community egg hunts by storm and are welcoming to all eager participants. Families are invited to scavenge at the Rowayton Community Center on April 1 and have options on April 8 at either World Alive Church or the Norwalk Green. And let’s be honest, Easter egg hunts can be fun for adults too, so don’t shy away from a stray egg if you see one. Families can additionally join the Easter Bunny for breakfast on April second at Stew Leonard’s.
The way you treat your planet matters, and this year’s Earth Day celebrations will celebrate our beautiful city and all that goes into caring for it. Community members can join the free celebration on the Norwalk Green on Saturday, April 22 for music, games, food, and guidance on how to reduce your footprint. Earth Day do-ers can participate in the Trash Bash, an event sponsored by the Rowayton Civic Association to clean up the area’s seaside neighborhood and preserve its beauty.
The Seaport Association’s sunset tours are all the rage throughout the spring and summer, allowing guests a romantic, coastal outing beneath a colorful sky.

Coast Along the Long Island Sound
The Seaport Association organizes nautical journeys to the Sheffield Island Lighthouse, offering an equally unique experience centered around your town’s history. The Lighthouse weekend or weekday tours are a fantastic way to seize the day and have uninterrupted time on the water to relish in the coastal bliss, and you can even learn a thing or two along the way. Cruise captains tell stories of Norwalk’s early days while on board and teach guests about the origin of things they now know and love. Raw oysters, for instance, were once a strange seafood delicacy that Norwalk settlers played a part in popularizing. On-board visitors will have the chance to tour the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse as well as the island’s well-kept nature trails.
The Seaport Association’s sunset tours are all the rage throughout the spring and summer, allowing guests a romantic, coastal outing beneath a colorful sky. Tickets can be purchased online and guests should be aware that boats leave the dock promptly – so, make sure you’re on time!
