Diamond Peak offers the best of Lake Tahoe skiing for families
By StoryStudio on January 11, 2023
Of the many winter resorts that surround Lake Tahoe, Diamond Peak is the hidden gem you’ve been waiting for as you gear up for family outings this season. Snow-covered trees, panoramic views of calm blue waters, and the perfect run for each member of your crew — a ride up the mountain has never been so dreamy.
Located in North Lake Tahoe, above Incline Village, Diamond Peak is community-owned, meaning the locals responsible for the resort care deeply about quality skiing and snowboarding. It’s for this reason that Diamond Peak boasts the best lift ticket deals in the area. Here, you won’t find crowds waiting in long lines for lift tickets or food, and parking is about as easy as saying “yes please” to that first après beverage after a day on the slopes.
Unbeatable views are just the tip of the iceberg: Diamond Peak has 28 named trails and 13 designated tree-skiing zones to bask in the alpine adventure. The resort’s trails span an enormous range of difficulty, designed to be approachable for beginners as well as challenging enough for well-seasoned shredders.
With a dedicated learning area for children just starting out, and a variety of lesson packages and clinics for any skill level, Diamond Peak is fully equipped with everything needed for a terrific Tahoe winter. The Child Ski & Ride Center offers lessons for little ones aged three to six, and the Ski & Ride Center has lesson packages for older skiers and riders. Every single mountain route — even the bunny hill — has unbeatable views of the lake. (That’s not to say that as you increase your altitude the view doesn’t become more stunning.)
The perfect place to learn at any age
Take a lesson with Diamond Peak's professional instructors to learn or improve your skiing or snowboarding skills. The resort offers group and private lessons options for ages three and up.
Tahoe’s top ski resort for families
Make sure you thaw out at the mid-mountain Snowflake Lodge for a brew and a 360-degree view. The lodge’s historic building offers a nostalgic look back at Tahoe’s golden years of ski resort design and serves bites for those in need of a relaxing break from the slopes. Enjoy grab-n-go items like hot cocoa on the sun deck or in mountainside Adirondack chairs in the snow.
The resort has other dining options in the base area including Wild Bill’s BBQ, a lunchtime staple for skiers in search of something hearty. Slow-smoked meats and homemade sauces headline Bill’s menu. Inside the lodge skiers can find more conventional meal choices, where families and groups typically congregate at tables and enjoy the warmth and camaraderie of fellow skiers and riders.

At Diamond Peak, trails of all levels converge in the Base Area, ensuring your group can split up and easily meet back up throughout the day. And three dedicated terrain parks offer small, medium and large features for riders looking to hit jumps, rails and boxes.
While kids six years old and under ski free (one of the oldest age limits around for free child lift tickets), Diamond Peak also offers interchangeable parent passes, allowing parents the luxury of one flat rate so they can take turns on the mountain while one parent watches young kids in the lodge.
