On a Mother Road road trip through southwest Illinois. Make a point of stopping by the classic International Horseradish Festival, the Edwardsville Route 66 Festival and the new Route 66 Sock Hop & Car Cruise in Granite City on your summer adventure.
The Last 100 Miles of Route 66 in Illinois runs through more than a dozen southwest Illinois communities, small and large, before it ends at the mighty Mississippi River. Travelers along this stretch of the historic highway have encountered a giant pink elephant, a ranch for rabbits, a massive prehistoric settlement, classic diners and roadside cafes and a bridge spanning the Mississippi sporting a weird 30-degree bend in the middle.
