JAN. 17, 2017: Normally the groundbreaking on a big construction project isn’t that big of a deal. In this case, however, the Warriors made sure the first day of work on Chase Center would set the tone for what fans — and all Bay Area residents, really — could expect from this new venue.
Among the highlights: Dancing cranes, fireworks, a performance by the San Francisco Symphony and more. Kevin Durant himself even showed up.
DECEMBER 2016: The Warriors and Accenture announced a multi-year partnership that names Accenture as the Exclusive Technology Innovation Partner for the Warriors and a Founding Partner of Chase Center.

DECEMBER 2015: The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approves an Environmental Impact Report and passes the Mission Bay Transportation Improvement Fund, which directs millions of dollars generated by the project to fund transportation and infrastructure improvements to the area. The EIR would be challenged in court numerous times but would hold up every time.

APRIL 19, 2014: After years of tossing around plans for a waterfront arena, the Golden State Warriors’ ownership team buys a 12-acre site in Mission Bay. The site had been owned by Salesforce, and CEO Marc Benioff was eager to move because the site was too small for his purposes. The deal happened quickly; Welts said Benioff took it upon himself to call Warriors owner Joe Lacob and offer him the parcel directly. Benioff negotiated with the Warriors directly before putting the land on the market.
SUMMER 2012 - SUMMER 2013: The Warriors ownership pursues a site on piers 30-32 along the Embarcadero between the Ferry Building and Oracle Park. Environmental concerns and citizen opposition slow approvals, and the ownership group begins investigating other options.
MAY 2012: At a press conference, then-San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, then-Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, then-NBA Commissioner David Stern and Golden State Warriors owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber announce plans to move the Warriors across the bay and back to San Francisco. Participants describe what they’d like to build as “a Sydney opera house for the San Francisco waterfront.”
Later, Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts describes the press conference itself as “our version of “The Decision,” referring to the made-for-social-media spectacle that LeBron James generated when he decided in 2010 to sign with the Miami Heat.
