University of Louisville Online Bachelor’s the Perfect Fit for Our Online Lives
We’ve all been feeling like our daily lives have transformed to reflect a fully-online world – whether it’s our kids “going” to school, food ordering at our finger tips, or even how we connect with family and friends. We also spend a considerable time online for entertainment and recreational purposes, and many of us could use that time to advance our education, career and personal growth.
With the University of Louisville’s online Organizational Leadership & Learning (OLL) program, there has never been a better time than now to complete a bachelor’s degree. Through flexible coursework and the convenience of learning 100% online, we can devote the time to continue working and handling life responsibilities while still fulfilling education and career goals.
Though much has changed in the workplace environment, the education ceiling remains as firmly in place as ever.
Time and again, individuals who’ve worked tirelessly and productively have encountered this barrier while attempting to advance their current career or make a positive job change. Furthermore, their impressive work tenure seems at odds with starting or returning to finish a bachelor’s program. The OLL program is designed to give credit for work experience, so that students can complete their degrees more quickly and affordably.
Jennifer Morgan, an OLL graduate, knows that feeling well, “I had been passed over for promotions because I didn’t have a degree.”
UofL’s Organizational Leadership and Learning (OLL) program was created for people like Jennifer, whose career advancement stalled even though she’d worked in her field for almost three decades. Joining the OLL program at UofL allowed her to leverage her work experience, gain new skills and maximize her potential.
Leverage Work Experience Towards College Credits
“I returned to school at the age of forty-six,” she says. “What I realized during the courses is that it was so applicable to everything I do, and what I have been doing for thirty years.”
Like most students who enroll in the OLL program, Jennifer’s first class, the Prior Learning Assessment course, enabled her to earn credits based on her individual work experience. Rather than suffer from the work/education paradox, Jennifer enrolled in the OLL program and converted her expertise and proven competencies into college credit that was then applied towards her degree.
Along with the benefit of completing the coursework wherever and whenever it is convenient, the online OLL student earns the same degree as a traditional or residential student. In fact, there is no difference in the wording on the diploma a student receives upon completion of the online degree or a traditional on-campus degree.
“The class really teed up a way to look at our life experience and begin extracting the value of that,” says David Beumer, another OLL graduate. “It just took all of those bits and pieces and stacked that knowledge and experience on top of each other to show everything you have learned through life.”
Support for Online Students
Student support begins well before the Prior Learning Assessment. Every prospective OLL student meets with an enrollment team of experienced counselors and academic advisors to create a comprehensive and customized “flight plan” for success.
OLL enrollment counselors understand the application process can feel intimidating to non-traditional students who may also be juggling parenthood, full-time jobs and other priorities. To assist with the process, they help students locate their high school and, if applicable, college transcripts. The counselors also help the students select classes and locate financial aid resources.

UofL’s online bachelor’s in Organizational Leadership & Learning program offers five different paths, designed to meet a student’s particular career goals.
The five distinctive tracks are designed with the main goal of supporting those with work experience, developing their skills and delivering the education they need for career advancement.
The University of Louisville was an early adopter for online learning, having launched the first curriculum over 20 years ago. This consistent framework of academic and personal support is one of many reasons the University of Louisville’s OLL program is recognized among the “2021 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs” nationwide by U.S. News & World Report.
“Who wouldn’t want to go to the University of Louisville?” says OLL student Donnie Stoner. “Being a graduate of the University of Louisville and to be considered an alumna, that’s a big deal. And then you tie it in with your life of being a Cardinal fan and you get to say, ‘I’m not only a fan, I’m an alum.’”
“I know for me, looking back when I was in the military and investing so much of myself into it, that I kept saying I don’t have time for school, says retired sergeant Tina Flatebo, an OLL student. “But every time I take a class I think, gosh I wish I would have had this information when I was working.”
The challenges of the past year have led many of us to evaluate or change our work and lifestyle choices. We’ve taken advantage of a mostly virtual workday to maximize enrichment in other areas, including our education.
The University of Louisville’s online Organizational Leadership & Learning program proudly continues to serve non-traditional students who are looking to improve their prospects and gain personal growth through education.

The Counseling and Human Relations track focuses on the fundamentals of mental health and integrates into leadership and management roles. This is a common track for those who have served in the military too.
