When Coors Field first opened in 1995, it was a bet on the future of Downtown Denver. The first step in transforming Lower Downtown from “rundowns and railyards” into “communities and commerce”.
The next phase of transformation in 2021: McGregor Square. A development built by more than bricks and mortar. It required strong partnerships, and long-standing relationships between a baseball club and a family-owned bank.
Bank of Colorado is a community bank down to its DNA. That means every individual branch is committed to serving its local customers as well as being a productive and supportive part of those communities, whether it’s a small town or a large metropolis. These bankers know their customers—their neighbors—by name and occupation. Through this relationship-based approach, Bank of Colorado has built up the trust, the financial resources, and the working knowledge of Denver and its people that are necessary in handling a project the size and scope of McGregor Square.
The Rockies and Bank of Colorado go back decades. Both Monfort and Bank of Colorado Co-Chairman Chris Dinsdale have roots in agriculture. Based on that long friendship and mutual respect, the baseball team brought Bank of Colorado in as its official bank in 2020. And when Monfort needed a trusted teammate to pitch in with financing for McGregor Square, Bank of Colorado was more than ready to step up to the plate.
"With a small staff, they’re more than just employees. They’re my friends. I worry about them and their families and what they’re going to do during this time. I promised them I would try to pay them through the next two weeks.
That’s when a friend, Shane Engelken at Bank of Colorado, told me about PPP. Even though I had always done all of my banking with Wells Fargo, I hurried and applied for the loan through Shane. We were approved and got our money before Wells Fargo even contacted me to tell me that they weren’t going to do PPP for me and that I should probably find someone else. That illustrated to me how valued I was as their customer."

"We closed for six weeks. During that time, we fretted over how we were going to maintain our staff. How do we hold it all together? That’s when we heard about PPP. That’s when we got in touch with Thea Sonnenberg at Bank of Colorado.
Thea was exceptional. She had always been a great communicator. But when this happened, she was very pregnant. But she must have spent many hours out of the workday, in the evenings, and on weekends to get this going. It seemed like we were always at the top of her list."

But Bank of Colorado is not content to just be a player behind the scenes in the clubhouse. They want to be out on the field, able to grow with and adapt to the needs of their clients, their teammates. That’s why, in addition to helping with the funding of the McGregor Square, Bank of Colorado is also investing in a marquee branch right across the street from Coors Field.
The focus on innovation extends into the layout of the new branch. Everything from flooring to fixtures has been designed to change the way one views community banking. Bank of Colorado values having a physical space to better serve the needs of all customers.
Instead of building around a traditional teller line, the space was designed with the customer experience in mind. Shrinking the distance between bank and community; enhancing access to relationship banking through face-to-face interactions.
Bank of Colorado is making a statement with this new branch is by its sheer location in the heart of Denver, right next to Coors Field.
They’re more than just another bank in Colorado, they’re Bank of Colorado.
The project that brought baseball to Colorado also fostered in a new era for downtown, and is a timestamp for economic growth in Coloroado. McGregor Square hopes to be the harbinger of the next phase of economic evolution, built on a solid foundation of community, trust, and customer service.
The centerpiece of the new Bank of Colorado at McGregor Square is an eye-catching 7-by-35-foot digital wall that provides an immersive brand experience any passer-by can see and feel.
This progressive community bank’s commitment to technology and convenience comes to life with their ATM LIVE, which combines the expected transactions of an ATM with the uncommon personal touch of a live-teller via real-time video.
