Heather Starr Fiedler is a loving wife, Mother of the Year, Point Park University professor, and part-time philanthropist. She's also an avid runner. Like many others, in 2020 Heather found herself spending more time outdoors, staying active as she quarantined with her family at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As she navigated the coronavirus, Heather also faced another obstacle: a fractured hip sustained during one of her daily COVID-19 runs.

United States Steel
At U. S. Steel, we believe our business thrives when we are actively engaged and involved in the communities where we make steel.
U. S. Steel has been making steel in the Mon Valley since its inception in 1901, when Andrew Carnegie sold the Carnegie Steel Company. The Mon Valley Works employs more than 3,000 hard-working men and women, many of whom live in Mon Valley communities - we deeply value the greater Pittsburgh community in which the Mon Valley Works operates.

Violins of Hope - Greater Pittsburgh
Violins of Hope Greater Pittsburgh is a landmark community project centered on the valuable lessons of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Over the course of two months, through educational and cultural programs, this unique project provides lessons of the Holocaust to demonstrate humanity’s amazing ability to rebound from even the darkest depravity. The centerpiece of this project is an exhibit of stringed instruments that were played by Jewish prisoners in the concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Bridges of Good Work serves to showcase how a desire to make a difference has propelled major players to stand up for matters much larger than their products or services, and in turn inspire optimism in the community. Thanks to Bridges of Good Work’s key sponsors and role model organizations, no great act will go unnoticed when it comes to creating a better and stronger Pittsburgh for us all.
Remake Learning
Something special is happening in Pittsburgh. Using the blueprints left to us by our favorite neighbor, Fred Rogers, a network called Remake Learning is building a real-life “neighborhood” in Western Pennsylvania.
Supported by The Grable Foundation and others — and inspired by Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood — Remake Learning connects the people and places who support our region’s learners: our schools, teachers, libraries, museums, parents, playgrounds, and beyond. Collectively, the network has turned our region into a campus — a place where kids and families can dream, discover, and become the best of whoever they are.
