Use your hands to blend the ingredients of the garlic herb butter until well mixed, then distribute by hand on the underside of the prime rib in a thin layer. Place the meat in the roasting pan and continue coating the top side of the cut. Cover generously.

Add beef broth to the roasting pan. This prevents the juices and fat drippings from the prime rib from burning on the bottom of the pan.

Put the prime rib in the oven. Sear it for 10 minutes at 450 degrees, then turn the oven down to 250 degrees and roast for 15 minutes per pound of beef to achieve medium rare.
(Pro tip: Use a meat thermometer to ensure accuracy along the way, to about 122 degrees.)
