We’ve all been reminded about the importance of family, our community, and the appreciation of life's smallest details this past year. Whether our solace comes from a walk in the woods, time spent around a campfire, or a round of golf, slowing down and spending quality time with close friends and family has proven a very good thing. This collective pause has also led to widespread speculation about once-daily life returns to normal, whether we will forget the importance of beach walks, those nature-based excursions and precious family time. Where we vacation could be one indication of how long our new appreciations will endure.
This is where Point Sebago comes in, a rustically elegant resort that encourages guests to stop and smell the pine trees, families to congregate for an unhurried few days, and romantics to toss away the car keys for a deep dive into the Maine woods.
Lodging
Throughout the season Point Sebago takes pride in offering a spectrum of lodging options for its guests. Campers will find secluded tent sites, full-service RV sites, and an assortment of permanent glamping options, "tentalows" on raised platforms that provide the camping experience without any of the packing. Vacation homes, cottages, and cabins also dot the spacious property. A new way to stay has been added to the portfolio recently, called The Cottage On The Greens, beginning bookings on July 1, 2021.
The Lodge is a multi-family dream, comprised of 7 bedrooms and five bathrooms that sleeps as many as 24 people with a maximum of 16 adults. Considering everyone needs a little space in a large gathering, the Lodge includes two kitchens, living rooms, dens, dining areas, wood-burning fireplaces, hot tub, sauna, and pool table. Wherever you choose to stay, the entire resort is your playground. Point Sebago is famous for its frequent events, including concerts, festivals, and other daily entertainment. Many return guests like Jenna Banaitis await the annual announcements like summer tours of a favorite band.
“One of the best family vacations we have ever taken. Activities all day long for all ages! Many family memories have been made here and we are so looking forward to our next summer's trip! My kids can't wait until the activity catalog comes out!”
Multi-Generational
A ‘Summer camp for the whole family’ may sound like a resort marketing cliché, but when you consider Point Sebago’s location linking woods and beachfront.
“Most people bring home a t-shirt or some souvenir from vacation,” says Caroline Jerome, who first visited Point Sebago in 1998 after her husband discovered he had camped there in 1973. "My oldest daughter found her husband on the shuffleboard court. Their summer romance continued on to the snack bar, and three years later they became engaged on the lake."
While a visit to Point Sebago doesn’t guarantee future nuptials, you’ll find an abundance of nature coming into full bloom across the 775-acre property when the resort opens in May, a great time to stay. A cruise upon Sebago Lake, Point Sebago features a marina, boat ramp and slips as well as motor and human-powered boat rentals, removes all care from the world. Fishing enthusiasts can cast straight from a designated dock located on the lagoon. Two beaches span the bay for one mile, an ideal spot for beach chair reads or refreshing dips in the lake. There is also plenty of shallow water for the littles to gather sand for castles or partake in a splash fest with the siblings. The lake is also ideal for renting a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard on an exploratory paddle.
Though well known for over 50 years as a full-service, multigenerational summer resort, Point Sebago’s early-season remains a hidden gem. As the days lengthen toward summer, May and June are breathtaking times to be here, with ample tee times available, lots of room on the beach, and that special feeling akin to hanging out on a college campus when the students are away.
“Just finished our vacation and it was awesome,” wrote Joyce on the Point Sebago Facebook page. “We have a boat so the lake was great. If you are looking for a peaceful vacation this is it.”
Like many adults who visit Point Sebago, Joyce was especially fond of the Tiki Bar, a carefree way to enjoy a cool drink that someone else mixes for you. The Tiki Bar illustrates how the Point Sebago staff has worked diligently to create a vacation environment that is just as fun for adults as it is for kids. Guests will also find lounges, a snack bar, a general store, and a full-service restaurant, all examples of the multigenerational amenities. Visit the Point Sebago website to start plotting your getaway.
