From smartwatches to automatic doors, intuitive designs exist to maximize your comfort, productivity and quality of life — so why not incorporate them into your living space? Whether you've just moved into your first place or are keen to rework your long-standing home, finding furnishings that stand out for their style, function and ease of use is easier than ever. Copenhagen is known for forward-thinking furniture products that will streamline the functionality and utility of the spaces that define your life. We spoke with Copenhagen designer Denise Rubio to get her take on intuitive design.
"I love people, and I love furniture," says Rubio, who has spent over three decades in the design industry. "I came to work for Copenhagen almost three years ago because it was the only place I wanted to sell furniture. It continually impresses me how Copenhagen furniture melds contemporary style with strong design principles that enhance the way we live.”
Below, find Rubio’s recommendations for furniture designed with intelligence and style to elevate every room in your home.
Your bedroom should be more than just a sleeping place — it should ease your soul, brighten your mornings and cater to your organization needs. Rubio says bedrooms are a prime spot for intuitive upgrades as people explore options from tech-friendly beds to adjustable mattresses that make their bedroom environment even more restorative.
“When it comes to bedrooms, people are willing to give up style for comfort,” she says. “Fortunately, they don’t have to do so at Copenhagen.”
For the ultimate intuitive mattress, try Copenhagen’s Harlequin Malia Split King Latex Mattress. Compatible with any bed frame, this adjustable mattress includes six preset positions that address a variety of physical needs. From the pressure relieving Zero Gravity position to the Anti-Snore angle that slightly elevates the head, Harlequin adapts to your body to bring you truly rejuvenating rest.

Mix Dark Browns, Soft Leathers & Wood Tones for a Cozy, Organic Look
A few well-chosen tweaks or additions may be all you need to turn your home into a haven for autumn and winter. As Diana said, pay particular attention to pieces like rugs, chairs, or accent pillows that can be switched out for ones with a more autumnal pattern or color, like rich brown. Also consider what new materials you can welcome into your home for the colder months. Why not try Diana's recommendation for leather, wood, or other organic elements to spruce up your space? As you plan to transition your home for the fall and winter, visit the Copenhagen website or your nearest showroom in Tucson, Phoenix, Scottsdale, or Gilbert, AZ or San Antonio or Austin, TX to see what’s possible.
"Look at a chair like the Viking, and it’s not hard to see how Danish designs inspired mid-century modern furniture that came out in the 1950’s. This look also called for accessories to have a little bit more of an organic take on Art Deco. Visit any house like the Frank Lloyd Wright House in Scottsdale, and you will see the accessories have the same lines as the furniture - the wood, canvas and metals all joining together to create a clean look.”
Colette says adding natural elements is key to freshening up a space, noting the Birch Divider, a 7-foot sculpture of realistic birch trunks, is one great way to “bring a little nature inside.” The Large Petroglyph Vase adds a modern take on an earthy element, yet another way to add clean, uncluttered accents to a room. The Trio Medium Vase also evokes a traditional ceramic piece in taupe and black colors that naturally warm the room.
Colette adds that decisions her clients make about accessories should always feel exciting and comfortable to them.
“My goal is to help customers fashion their home into a place they don't want to leave. That is their kingdom and they should love everything they look at when they walk in.”
In addition to furniture, Copenhagen designers work with wall art, vases, sculptures and other accent pieces that fully create a room. Adding art and accessories to our living space invites us to make subtle statements that complement the seasons without changing out the larger furniture. Colette Pedersen and her colleagues at Copenhagen will guide you through the process of refreshing your space as spring continues. Visit the Copenhagen website or your nearest Copenhagen location to preview accessories and artwork for you and your home.
Make a bold statement and add color to your space with the Blooms in Tangerine painting.
“I personally like that we are seeing earth tones and warm colors more than we have before when we had a lot of colors with the volume turned up,” says Colette. “For instance, I see the darker blues, midnight and cerulean blues, shown with champagne colors. We are also seeing this trend in the brands we carry at Copenhagen.”
"
“I also encourage clients to have a ‘keepsake’ or memory room,” says Colette. “This room can be filled with family photos and artifacts so common spaces stay clean, bright, and most importantly, free of clutter.”
According to Colette, Danish design and accessories have a rich history and timeless appeal.

Live your best with smartly designed furniture
Whether your living space serves as an entertainment center, a place of gathering, a cozy retreat ― or a combination of all three ― you’ll want furniture that works seamlessly to help you relax, unwind, connect and play.
“For example,” Rubio says, “The Stressless® Mike Motion Recliner is perfect for a family room. With an ergonomic frame, power-motion capability, and a soothing rocking motion when upright, Mike adapts easily to bring comfort and relaxation to every member of the family.”
Adjustability is trending beyond the bedroom as many of us start to gravitate to multifunctional products that support various activities within the same space. The Bellagio Lift Top Occasional Table can be raised for eating or working and lowered to coffee table height for entertaining. The Andrea TV Cabinet features a revolving TV pillar arm that allows you to mount your TV and angle it for optimal viewing, as well as push-to-open doors that make the interior easily accessible.
For a small but mighty intuitive design, an adjustable laptop table like the Serif fits the bill. Serif’s base is slim enough to easily slide under any sofa or chair, and its generous tabletop can be used for eating, reading, or working.
Dine with intuitive design
From self-storing leaves that save space to innovative spring-and-slide systems that extend tabletops with minimal effort, adjustable dining tables are a flexible choice for improving functionality. Copenhagen offers the Karsten High-Rise Dining Table, made of walnut wood and equipped with mechanisms that extend both its length and height. Whether you use it as a prep counter, bar, activity table, or extended dining table for your holiday feast, Karsten adapts to it all.
Choosing the right dining chair is just as important for curating an intuitive dining space. The Mint High Back Chair has innovative flexibility in the seat and back that allows it to adjust to slight movements in the body – ensuring you and your guests’ long-lasting comfort and support.
And for the optimal storage solution, a bar tower like the Calypso has an open circular structure that makes storing the essentials easy, while also displaying your favorite glasses for quick access.
When setting up a dining room, consider thoughtfully designed furniture that works hard behind the scenes to make your guests comfortable and help your get-togethers shine.
"Designing the dining room is all about how a client will use the space," says Rubio, who’s been working in design since she was 18 years old. "Do you have a formal dining room? Will the dining room table be the central table for kids’ homework and entertainment?"
Office furniture to optimize your workday
Whether you’re working from home, on a hybrid schedule or back in the office, innovative office furniture is a must for helping you stay focused to get your best work done.
"Our offices don't just consist of a personal laptop to pay bills on anymore," says Rubio. "With more people working from home, and often in limited space, smart and functional furniture is essential. This starts with a well-fitting chair like the Voca Office Chair by BDI that features a broad range of adjustable features for comfort, like lumbar support and armrests.”
Rubio says lift desks continue to grow in popularity for good reason. “They allow people to stretch and move while still being productive.”
For instance, the Soma 60" Lift Desk adjusts from 24 inches to almost 50 inches, allowing a variety of height modifications whether sitting or standing. Soma’s wire management cradle eliminates most cable clutter and includes a surge protector and additional outlets. Proper lighting is just as critical to productivity as seat posture and desk height. An LED desk lamp like the Z-Bar has a long lifespan, a dimmable touch switch, and a three-bar design for ultimate reach and flexibility.
