Meet the Company Revolutionizing the First and Last 100 Feet of Warehouses and Retailers
Solutions for the First and Last 100 Feet
SPONSORED BY Cornerstone Automation Systems
Visit any fulfillment warehouse or large retail store and you’ll find shelves filled with products. While most of us rarely consider how these products get from the truck to the shelf, logistical solutions for warehouses and retail stores are critical places where companies can save money while improving safety and efficiency.
No one knows this advantage better than CASI, a family-owned full-service automation solution provider based just outside Dallas, Texas.
“At CASI, we’re focused on streamlining the first 100 feet and last 100 feet of warehouses and retail stores,” says Greg Judkins, CEO of Cornerstone Automated Systems (CASI). “We design and build automated equipment and technology that helps warehouses and retail stores lower costs.”
Innovation and Service Make the CASI Difference
CASI specializes in turnkey solutions that are customizable to the needs and budgets of each company they serve. Founded 22 years ago in a small building next to a goat farm, today, CASI operates out of a 150,000 sq. ft. assembly and integration warehouse. Here, CASI experts conceptualize, design, fabricate, and test the automated equipment solutions that lower their customers’ operational costs using innovative technology found nowhere else in the industry. Once a solution has been produced, CASI installs it and maintains it to keep it running at peak performance.
Innovation comes from necessity. Most of CASI’s automated solutions were conceived to solve a specific problem. The IBOD was no different. A client needed a safer, faster way to unbox and CASI produced the IBOD. A different customer needed a flexible conveyor system so CASI built the CASi-Conveyor. A readiness to solve hard problems reflects the company’s commitment to customer service.
“We’re very customer-centric,” Judkins says. “CASI is one of the leaders of our industry in customer service which we feel is indicative of our family business values and Texas-based identity.”
“We’re always asking ourselves and our customers how can we make our solutions better,” says Judkins, “not only because we’re committed to taking care of the installations that are in place and running in the field today, but also we want to make future solutions better for the next customer.”
Future solutions include the new CASi-AutoDecant which recently debuted at the 2024 Modex tradeshow in Atlanta. Box cutting and decanting account for up to 25% of a facility’s total labor because of the time-consuming effort of removing product from a box. Paired with the IBOD, the CASi-AutoDecant eliminates this costly use of labor while protecting the health and safety of warehouse employees who can now focus their efforts on other challenges.
“The IBOD and AutoDecant are equipment almost every warehouse needs in the receiving section of their buildings,” Judkins says, noting that all CASI’s solutions are designed like Lego blocks to be combined as one hyper-efficient, fully automated system. This allows companies to find solutions that fit their budget where purchasing one solution now doesn’t preclude adding to the system later.
“CASI is in the business of is solving our customers’ problems. We want our customers to tell us what their problem is, and we'll give them a solution. That's how CASI started. That's how we exist today.”

The first 100 feet of a retail store or warehouse is where products are pulled off the truck and transferred to the shelves. This is labor-intensive work that requires diligence and precision. Any mistake either damages merchandise injures employees, or both. With the fine profit margins of retail, these mistakes are costly, especially when one considers the value of workers’ interaction with customers. Every person needed to work unloading and stocking is a person who can’t be serving customers in the last 100 feet of a retailer or warehouse.
CASI designed their revolutionary CASi-IBOD to specifically address this challenge. The IBOD is a first-of-its-kind intelligent box-opening device system that increases efficiency, optimizes labor, and reduces the risk of injury. This faster, smarter, safer solution is fully automated and can expertly open 500 boxes per hour, in a nearly endless variety of sizes and shapes, over double the average human output.
No more loss time injuries from box opening mishaps that cost companies an estimated $30,000 per laceration injury. The IBOD never gets tired and never gets hurt. It just produces so customers can get to their inventory quicker and safer than ever.
“The IBOD is our flagship product,” says CEO Judkins. “As our most cost-effective, efficient solution that we offer to the market, it's a huge competitive advantage that no one else offers but us.”
CASI’s IBOD solution is the only Automated intelligent box cutting device, patented in both the U.S. and Europe. The IBOD is part of a series of six fully scalable solutions that can be customized to work with a customer’s current system or used in tandem with other CASI solutions to provide superior offloading. Beginning with flexible conveyor truck unloading, advanced box cutting, robotic box dumping, and sortation, CASI systems can take product from Truck to Tote with minimal labor in today’s advanced warehouses. CASI also offers solutions for order fulfillment including pick, pack, auto-manifesting and labeling systems for product leaving a warehouse or retail store. Additionally CASI’s solutions can help customers track their inventory from start to finish with a variety of automated sortation, scanning and tracking systems which can seamlessly interface with a customer’s warehousing management software. CASI has a solution that fits any need.
From concept to fulfillment in a facility, CASI project managers are there for customers every step of the way. Even after fulfillment, CASI’s Customer Care team works with Field Services to ensure all automated solutions are installed and running properly, performing health checks on equipment and following up with customer satisfaction.
