Tailored, Turnkey, Tested: How CASI’s Automated Solutions Are Transforming the first and last 100 feet of Retail and Warehouse Operations
Meet the CASi-IBOD
SPONSORED BY Cornerstone Automation Systems
Some revolutions start loudly. Others build across decades of innovation. Consider the CASi-IBOD, the flagship product of Cornerstone Automation Systems (CASI). As the first-of-its-kind automated box cutter, CASi-IBOD has evolved to become an integral part of the first and last hundred feet in many retail warehouses, e-commerce warehouses, and 3rd Party Logistics providers across the globe. Revolutionary from its inception, and continually improving, the CASi-IBOD is the tailored, turnkey, tested solution for more than 400 companies worldwide.
CASi-AutoDecant - Box cutting and decanting account for up to 25 percent of a facility’s total labor because of the time-consuming effort that is required to complete this simple task. The CASi-AutoDecant automatically removes product from a box and places items weighing up to 55 lbs. into totes or containers at a rate of 480 boxes per hour. It is a fast, efficient, flexible and safe solution for the first 100 feet of a warehouse.
CASi-Conveyor - The CASi-Conveyor makes material handling easy. This Made-in-America solution uses 24-volt brushless DC motors to optimize box conveyance while minimizing power consumption. Available in both “Powerflex” and “Rigid-MDR” variations, CASi-Conveyors are the key to unlocking reliability unparalleled productivity gains and efficiency.
CASi-Sort - Sortation is labor intensive. CASi-Sort offers three different sortation systems to increase your efficiency. Using automated receiving that scans and sorts incoming products automatically, you can prioritize items on demand, reduce shrinkage, and maximize your existing labor. CASi-Sort even saves space. When not in use, CASi-Sort’s wings easily fold up to reduce the system’s footprint.

The CASi-IBOD (Intelligent Box Opening Device) is an inline, pass-through box opening solution which automates box cutting for safe inventory extraction. The only machine of its kind, the IBOD reduces risk of human injury in cuts associated with manual box cutting and minimizes damaged product inside the boxes, while increasing the efficiency of the receiving process.
“We’re certainly the experts of box cutting,” says Greg Judkins, CEO at CASI. “Others in the industry have tried to compete, only to realize how difficult it is to design a machine to efficiently and accurately cut a box.”
Designed, engineered, and built in CASI's Frisco, Texas, manufacturing facility, the IBOD showcases the power of American ingenuity. Developed as solutions that are tailored, turnkey and tested, the CASi-IBOD and its seamlessly integrated connecting equipment are the beating heart powering the distribution industry.
We design and build automated equipment and technology that helps warehouses and retail stores lower costs.
The superiority of the CASi-IBOD is due not only to the product’s revolutionary design but also because it embodies CASI’s “3-T” approach to superior automated solutions.
“Tailored, turnkey and tested sums up what we provide to our customers,” Judkins says. “Offering tailored, turnkey, solutions that are twice tested then installed with as little downtime in our customers’ facility as possible is why we’ve been so successful.”
Tailored. CASI’s automated solutions are tailored to each customer they serve. It starts with listening to customers, what Judkins considers the company’s “biggest strength.”
Once the customer relays their problem, CASI tailors and configures a solution to solve it. Once the tailored solution is agreed upon, it is conceptualized at CASI’s Frisco, TX, headquarters where each piece of Intelligent Automation is designed and built by CASI’s expert interdisciplinary team, on-time and on budget.
Turnkey. Each tailored intelligent automation system is a turnkey product ready to add value when it arrives at a customer site, built entirely in-house with no third-party contracting. CASI can ensure the quality of each tailored, turnkey solution because it controls the process from concept to installation.
Tested. No other intelligent automated solution has been rigorously tested as CASI’s. This is especially key when customers combine the IBOD with other CASI products. Each tailored, turnkey solution is tested twice: once at the production facility with the customer present to ensure the solution is exactly what the client needs, and again at the customer’s facility where the IBOD and other additional components are installed.
The CASi-IBOD is a game-changing solution on its own, but it can also be connected to other CASI solutions to solve even the most complex shipping and receiving problems.
“CASI products can seamlessly integrate into one larger solution,” explains Judkins. “Our machines are designed to fit together like Lego blocks. Each machine can operate as a standalone solution or exist as part of an integrated whole.”
Solutions that seamlessly integrate with the CASi-IBOD include the CASi-AutoDecant, CASi-Conveyor and CASi-Sort.
“We really love to see our customers happy,” Judkins says. “To be able to go to a site where a machine is performing well and see our customers pleased with the solution and talk to us about how they can implement more of that solution or expand to include other CASI equipment in different warehouses is very exciting.”

The Customer Experience from Concept to Installation and Beyond
Delivering on its core value of Customer Commitment is one of CASI’s strengths. From concept to installation, the process is powered by listening to customers. In fact, each of CASI’s innovations was originally invented to solve a problem brought by a customer. This continuous improvement mentality has helped CASI grow in the market and expand our customer base.
“When a potential customer hears of the comprehensive solutions CASI offers, they’re often relieved,” said Judkins. “Many new customers don’t realize these customized solutions exist.”
The Future Is Data
The IBOD continues to evolve as the conversation between CASI and its customers yields new demands on an already revolutionary product. While the IBOD is the only intelligent box cutting machine on the market, its emerging data collecting capabilities hint at the direction future models may go.
CASI continues to evolve and adapt with the market and emerging trends and is bringing its flagship product, the IBOD, to Promat and is set to unveil even more features at the tradeshow in Chicago in March.
In the meantime, the word is out. No one does intelligent automated solutions like CASI. American-made, internationally recognized, the IBOD and its integrated solutions are creating a superior experience for retailers, e-commerce Warehouses, and 3PLs around the world. Customer Journey
The customer journey starts with a meeting with a CASI technical sales representative to listen to the prospective company’s specific challenge. The CASI sales representative then walks through a potential solution with them. From there, CASI drafts a formal proposal to detail product solutions including how the equipment runs, lead time, price, and performance metrics. Once a proposal is agreed upon, the build begins at the CASI headquarters in Frisco.
A product manager keeps in close contact with the customer throughout the process. Because the solution is built in-house, real-time updates are reliable and accessible. Customers are welcome to visit the Frisco facility and observe progress in person as well as be there when testing of the solution begins.
After the solution is built, it undergoes testing at the CASI facility with the customer present. Once the product is packed and shipped, the CASI team is onsite for installation to make sure it goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
Once installed, a final safety test is performed to see how the solution interacts with the customer’s process.
“It’s after installation that we like to say the real journey begins,” Judkins says. “That’s when the project goes from our production management team to our customer care team.”
CASI’s customer care team provides superior support anytime, anywhere. Comprised of extremely knowledgeable and capable phone technicians, the customer care team can solve the bulk of any issue that might arise. The customer care team also schedules health checks for the machines where a CASI field service technician does a machine inspection and performs preventative maintenance onsite.
“We really own the process from start to finish,” says Judkins. “All our customers continue to receive customer care and health checkups following installation for years to come.”
