West Texas A&M University is the Panhandle’s university.
For more than 100 years, WT has been the source of higher education in the region, focusing on the needs of the Panhandle’s citizens and communities. The university is a Regional Research University that transfers insights and ideas from the Panhandle to rural communities across the nation and the world. WT’s many research achievements range from advancing rural education to environmental studies in Palo Duro Canyon to improving feed yard performance to development of Copper Clean to protect door handles from viruses and bacteria.
And so much more is on the horizon.
As a Hispanic Serving Institution since 2016 and one of 53 institutions in the United States to be recognized for advancing first-generation students, there are many reasons to apply, enroll, attend, experience and graduate from WT.
Safe surroundings are top of mind, especially for parent and families. WT was named the safest campus in Texas and one of the top 10 safest in the United States— the only school in the state to make the national list.
Another important reason is affordability. While many colleges and universities across the nation raised tuition in 2022-23, WT is committed to remaining affordable and accessible. Through the Buff Promise, WT has committed 100 percent of its available resources to cover fall and spring in-state tuition and fees for undergraduate Texas residents who have an annual family income of $80,000 — the median income level for our region — or less.
If you’re considering continuing your education, don’t think twice. The quality of education is fantastic. I really love everything about WT.

Among the many other distinguished rankings for quality programs, WT was nationally recognized by Money and Fortune magazines.
As proof of the high return on higher education investment, WT graduates have higher employment rates than the national average, according to a 2020-21 report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
Community and engagement are key factors in a positive personalized collegiate experience. WT averages a 1:17 faculty to student ratio. WT freshmen especially appreciate smaller classrooms instead of getting lost in other institutions’ large lecture halls that seat up to 300 students.
WT offers students hundreds of organizations for personal enrichment and numerous personalized services to enhance academic success.
WT also features 14 men’s and women’s athletic programs, many of which are nationally competitive. The Buffaloes are a member of the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference. In the past year, Buffs and Lady Buffs claimed six LSC Championships, three LSC Tournament crowns, two regional championships and four Top 5 track and field finishes, including the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Women’s National Championship.
WT is proud to play a vital role in the Panhandle, Texas and the world. Make WT your university of choice.
SEE THE PLAN
WT is located in Canyon, Texas, on a 342-acre residential campus that boasts an enrollment of about 10,000 students. Proud to be part of The Texas A&M University System since 1990, WT offers 60 undergraduate degree programs, 40 master’s degrees and two doctoral degrees.
WT’s growth will continue thanks to the plan of action laid out in the university’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic, $125 million One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. To date, the five-year campaign — which publicly launched Sept. 23, 2021 — has raised about $110 million.

Quality and value are also high on the list of reasons to make WT your university of choice. WT was designated as a Best Value university in the U.S., earning 30 awards for individual programs.
