While excited about the Chase Center opportunity, — “it’s just surreal, it seems too good to be true,” Barakat said — she also thinks the Warriors’ decision to highlight the region’s top
food and drink purveyors is not surprising.

The premium lounges will offer “tiered levels of luxury experience,” Jeffers said, including “butler-passed hors d’oeuvres and really nice wine and cocktails in the JP Morgan Club and the courtside lounges. Right outside of the doors are over 30 Michelin-starred restaurants. People know good food; they have expectations and our goal is to try to surpass them.”
“The more earned revenue we can bring in, the more youth we can serve, which we’re very excited to do,” Goines said. “Besides the extra revenue, if we become known as one of the must-go places in San Francisco — if we’re full in the restaurant every night, or known as the place to host your private corporate event or training — that is going to be huge.”
“The guide was published last month (July), but it is meant to be a living document on chasecenter.com and will get updated on a regular schedule in conversation with SFMTA and many other regional transit agencies with whom we are collaborating,” Welts said.
Foot and pedal power are other excellent options, Welts noted. Scenic walkways lead from area Caltrain stations, bus stops and the ferry terminals, for strolls ranging from about five to 20 minutes. And free bike valet for 300 bikes is offered along 16th Street on the south side of Chase Center with multiple bike and scooter racks positioned all around the venue.
Should anyone still wish to arrive the old-fashioned way via car, the Center also offers dedicated loading zones for taxi, paratransit and ride hail services.
“The experience of attending a Warriors game, or any event, will be completely different from what people have experienced in the past,” said Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts.

An architectural jewel? A high-tech wonderland? The newest venue in the NBA? A premier destination for concerts and art galas? The epicenter of a burgeoning transportation hub? An indulgent space featuring world-class artwork, upscale fare and a massive store for Golden State Warriors merchandise?
The answer is all of the above.
When Chase Center opens, it will not only be the new, privately financed home of the six-time NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, it will be the epicenter of a thriving art, theater, shopping and dining district. The design’s versatility will enable it to transform from a basketball arena to a concert venue quickly and discreetly, and the waterfront location includes a sweeping wall of windows overlooking San Francisco Bay.
Prepare to be amazed, said Jonathan Emmett, principal design director for sports facilities at Gensler, the firm tasked with the interior design of Chase Center.
“This is really an arena that’s going to stand out for its diverse offering of seating types, club experiences and food and beverage options,” Emmett said.
Chase Center will be the centerpiece of Thrive City, an 11-acre mixed-use complex and partnership with Kaiser Permanente that will feature open spaces, publicly accessible plazas, a pair of office buildings and restaurants and retail destinations. Thrive City will also host a 10,000-square-foot Warriors team store, carrying virtually every bit of Warriors paraphernalia available.
There will be two main entrances to Chase Center. The main entrance will host a lobby on par with the finest resort hotels. Extravagant escalators, designer lighting and voluminous ceilings will accent art installations on loan from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The theater entrance, found at the southeastern corner of the venue, will feature a collection of public art and sculptures Welts hopes will become a destination for visitors on days no events are taking place.
While there will be three levels of parking and 950 spaces beneath Chase Center and other nearby lots, Welts said the Warriors are doing everything they can to get people to take public transportation to and from the arena.
One way they’re doing this is through a partnership with Muni, where a ticket to any event at Chase Center grants ticket holders free, all-day use of the electric trains.
“We’re in a dense urban setting now, and we’re doing everything possible to make it a transit-first venue,” Welts said.
There will be 300 permanent bike valet spaces at Chase Center, with BART and Caltrain stations within close proximity to the arena.
Additional public transportation options will be rolled out in the near future. Welts expects the central subway system to be completed at some point during the 2019-2020 Warriors season.
“The central subway will be a game-changer on a regional basis,” he said.
To prepare for the surge of people, Muni expanded the existing platform on the 3rd Street side of Chase Center. This allows multiple trains to be staged at the platform, allowing for easy entrance and exit from the venue.
In the not too distant future, a ferry landing at 16th Street will provide water access to Chase Center. The landing is expected to be completed in 2020.
Borrowing an idea from Oracle Arena, Chase Center will include 60 theater boxes. These exclusive boxes rest atop the ring of luxury suites along the sidelines of the arena and include four seats and its own dining table.
Chase Center will also include 44 luxury suites and 32 courtside lounges. The courtside lounges enjoy exclusive access to a private hospitality area and tickets to seats in rows 6, 7, 8 and 9.
“They’re some of the best seats in the house,” Welts said.
Fans in the upper deck are far from an afterthought, as they are actually placed closer to the court than they were at Oracle Arena, Welts said. Additionally, the upper bowl will have a restaurant that anyone with a ticket can access.
Conceptualized by Kendall Heaton of MANICA Architecture, Chase Center’s interior design was overseen by Emmett and Jeff Henry of Gensler, an international interior design firm with offices in Oakland and San Francisco. Emmett’s portfolio includes renovation projects for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, as well as the Dallas Cowboys’ World Headquarters and Training Facility. Henry’s background includes the redesign of San Francisco Airport’s Terminal 2.
To Welts, one of the most distinctive architectural elements of the whole project is the Gatehouse, a 5,000-square-foot structure along Third Street between a pair of office buildings.
“The Gatehouse itself has three elements,” Welts said. “There’s the retail element on Third Street, then Spanish steps leading to a level overlooking the plaza, and lastly, a glass-enclosed space that will house the television studio for NBC Sports Bay Area.”
The fishbowl design of the television studio allows fans to stand in the background and appear on television during pre- and post-game broadcasts.
And the best is still yet to come, Welts said. Perhaps as soon as the end of 2019, Chase Center’s upper level will offer an intimate venue that can be privately rented.
“It will have one of the most amazing views of the city. It will create a view of both spans of the Bay Bridge, all the way to Financial District,” he said. “I expect it to be the wedding hotspot a year from now, and it can host holiday parties, corporate events and anniversaries, and it will be one of the premier event spaces in San Francisco.”
“I see it as a place that people will take their friends and family when they come to visit, something where people say, ‘We have to go see that,’” he said. “I hope it will be the same as The Bean in Chicago,” Welts said.
